The Vocation Story of Sr. Veronie Jane Salarde

I am Sr. Veronie Jane Salarde, from Sulop, Davao del Sur. I am the eldest and the only daughter among five brothers. At the age of 18, I made the courageous decision to respond to God’s invitation and entered the convent in Manila.

Before joining religious life, I was a student at Cor Jesu College in Digos City, already in my third year of college, pursuing a Bachelor in Education. Like many young people, I enjoyed life with my friends—going to the cinema, attending discos, and spending time out together. From the outside, everything seemed complete and enjoyable, but deep within my heart I felt a great emptiness. I longed for something more—a happiness that the world could not give.

During this time of searching, I felt a strong and gentle calling from God. I began to desire a different path, one that would bring true joy and peace to my soul. God placed in my life a schoolmate from Holy Cross of Sulop, who introduced me to the Crucified Sisters Adorers of the Eucharist. I knew nothing about religious life then, but something in my heart felt drawn toward this congregation.

With trust in God’s guidance, I followed His call. It was the beginning of a journey of deep faith, love, sacrifice, and joyful service. In the Crucified Sisters, I discovered the true happiness I had been searching for—a life centered on Jesus Crucified and in love with the Eucharist.

Today, I continue to live my vocation with gratitude, praying for the sanctification of priests and the conversion of sinners, and serving God with a joyful and simple heart.
