Saluting Battery Honors President Marcos During the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence
Rizal Park, Quirino Grandstand, City of Manila | 12 June 2025

In celebration of the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence (Araw ng Kalayaan), the Saluting Battery of the Army Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, rendered a traditional 21-gun salute in honor of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Rizal Park’s Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

Leading the ceremonial salute was Captain Josil A. Sarcia (ART), PA, Battery Commander of Saluting Battery. The event was attended by senior military officials, uniformed personnel, government dignitaries, and members of the public, all gathered to commemorate the nation’s enduring struggle for freedom.

In his address, President Marcos delivered a solemn message, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and civic responsibility:
“Freedom is not just something that we inherit, but a right that we must protect every single day,” he said.
The President underscored the continuing threats to liberty—not from external forces alone, but from within:
“The true enemy of freedom is indifference—indifference to the people’s plight, to our fellow citizens, and to the welfare of our nation.”

President Marcos also paid tribute to the nation's heroes, naming Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, and countless unnamed Filipinos whose courage and sacrifice secured the country's independence from colonial rule. He stressed that sustainable peace must be rooted in honoring their legacy.

This year's commemoration served as a poignant reminder of the values upon which the Philippines was founded—freedom, sacrifice, and national unity—and a call to all Filipinos to continue safeguarding the hard-won liberties of the Republic.
