TARA BASA PROGRAM OF DSWD EMPOWERS YOUNG READERS IN SALUYSOY INTEGRATED SCHOOL│JULY 21, 2025
In a strong partnership between the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local schools, the Tara Basa Reading Program successfully concluded its month-long implementation at Saluysoy Integrated School on June 21, 2025. The program officially kicked off last May 21, aiming to boost the reading skills of young learners while fostering active participation from parents and the community.
Tara Basa, which means “Let’s Read,” focused on improving foundational literacy through daily guided reading sessions, storytelling, and interactive learning activities. Youth development workers and volunteer tutors facilitated the sessions, using age-appropriate materials and creative methods to keep learners engaged.
The program culminated in a heartwarming activity filled with performances, sharing of experiences, and the distribution of certificates to participating learners, tutors, and supportive parents. In attendance were teachers, DSWD representatives, proud parents, and the focal person of Saluysoy Integrated School, Elita Mae S. Barretto, who represented Principal Atty. Emerson T. Ceria during the event.
Parents expressed their gratitude not only for the academic growth of their children but also for the personal learnings they gained throughout the program.
“Natuto rin kami bilang mga magulang kung paano turuan ang aming mga anak sa bahay. Malaking tulong ang mga simpleng strategies na ipinakita sa amin,” said one parent during the culminating program.
Others shared how the program taught them the value of consistency, patience, and encouragement in helping their children become better readers.
“Ngayon, mas alam na namin ang tamang paraan ng pagbasa kasama ang anak namin. Natutunan din namin kung gaano kahalaga ang pagbibigay oras araw-araw sa pagbabasa,” another parent added.
Mrs. Barretto, in her message, commended the efforts of all stakeholders, especially the parents, youth facilitators, and the DSWD for making the Tara Basa program a meaningful experience for the children of Saluysoy.
“This is not just about reading,” she shared. “This is about building confidence, creating connections at home, and planting the seeds for lifelong learning.”
With the successful implementation of the Tara Basa program in Saluysoy Integrated School, the community looks forward to more initiatives that support literacy and parent engagement, empowering both children and families in the journey of education.
