Goodbye, Habagat!

A gradual shift in the prevailing weather pattern has been observed over the past several days, such as the strengthening high pressure system over East Asia, the southward-migrating Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and the notable weakening of winds and a decrease in rainfall associated with the Southwest Monsoon.

Forecasts indicate that these conditions are expected to persist in the coming days. In view of this, the Habagat season has officially ended. This also marks the termination of the rainy season over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

When disaster strikes and the waters rise, what is the one silent anchor holding our world together? 🌍💧

Looking at this powerful scene, we see a village submerged in floodwaters. Yet, right in the middle, a single mature tree stands firm on a small patch of earth, offering safety to a bird while the rest of the land washes away.

The problem is that as we clear forests, degrade watersheds, and pave over our natural landscapes, we strip away the Earth's natural shock absorbers. Without the deep root systems of trees to anchor soil and manage heavy rainfall, communities are left entirely defenseless against flash floods, erosion, and climate extremes.

Trees are not just scenery—they are our frontline infrastructure and ultimate natural protection.
We need to value and protect our green spaces before the next crisis hits.

Ayon sa pinakahuling Rainfall Advisory na pinalabas ng DOST-PAGASA ngayong araw, August 30, 2026 10:45 AM, ang lalawigan ng Nueva Ecija ay nasa ilalim ng magkakaibang Rainfall Warning Level.

Ang mga bayan ng Cuyapo, Nampicuan ay nasa ilalim ng Red Rainfall Advisory. Ang mga bayan naman ng Cabiao, Gapan, San Antonio, San Isidro, Guimba, Licab, Zaragoza, Talugtug, San Leonardo, Jaen, General Tinio, Penaranda ay nasa ilalim ng Orange Rainfall Advisory at ang natitirang bahagi ng Nueva Ecija kabilang ang Science City of Munoz at mga bayan ng Aliaga, Bongabon, Cabanatuan, Carranglan, Gabaldon, General Mamerto Natividad, Laur, Llanera, Lupao, Palayan, Pantabangan, Quezon, Rizal, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Santo Domingo, Talavera ay nasa ilalim ng Yellow Rainfall Advisory.

Samantala, ang dating LPA na huling namataan sa silangan ng Extreme Northern Luzon ay ganap ng bagyo at binigyan ng local name na Pilandok.

Manatiling handa sa anumang banta ng pagbaha at iba pang epekto ng mga sama ng panahon at palaging makinig sa updated na balita.

Sa direktiba ni Governor Aurelio Oyie Matias Umali batay sa rekomendasyon ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), at alinsunod sa Executive Order No. 27, Series of 2026, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞-𝐭𝐨-𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐮𝐞𝐯𝐚 𝐄𝐜𝐢𝐣𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐬, 𝐀𝐠𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨 𝟐𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐝𝐨.

Ang mga paaralan at higher education institutions ay hinihikayat na magpatupad ng naaangkop na 𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬, gaya ng asynchronous learning, alinsunod sa kanilang umiiral na mga patakaran at alituntunin.

Ang hakbang na ito ay isinagawa bilang pag-iingat sa kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral, g**o, faculty members, at school personnel dahil sa patuloy at malakas na pag-ulan na nararanasan sa lalawigan at sa inaasahang lagay ng panahon bukas.

Ayon sa mga pinakahuling abiso ng DOST-PAGASA ngayong Agosto 28:

• Dalawang Low Pressure Area (LPA) ang kasalukuyang minomonitor. Ang isang LPA sa loob ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at isa pang LPA sa labas ng PAR ay kapwa may 𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐔𝐌 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 na maging Tropical Depression sa loob ng susunod na 24 oras.

• Sa Weather Advisory No. 24 para sa Southwest Monsoon o Habagat, inaasahang makararanas ang Nueva Ecija ng humigit-kumulang 𝟓𝟎–𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐦𝐦 𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐧 at nasa ilalim ng 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 para sa Agosto 29.

• Mula alas-5:00 ng umaga ngayong Agosto 28, sunod-sunod na Heavy Rainfall Warnings ang inilabas para sa Nueva Ecija. Umabot sa 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 ang maraming bahagi ng lalawigan, habang nanatili namang nasa Yellow Warning Level ang iba pang lugar. Ang patuloy na pag-ulan ay nagpapataas ng posibilidad ng pagbaha, lalo na sa mga mabababa at flood-prone na lugar.

Dahil dito, hinihikayat ang lahat na iwasan ang hindi kinakailangang pagbiyahe, manatiling mapagmatyag, at patuloy na subaybayan ang mga opisyal na abiso mula sa DOST-PAGASA, PDRRMO, at Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Nueva Ecija.

Pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 132, work in government offices and classes at all levels in public and private schools shall be suspended in the National Capital Region and the following provinces at 1:00 p.m. on August 28, 2026, in anticipation of the further enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) by the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR):
