As temperatures continue to rise across the city, everyone are urged to prioritize safety and health. With the current heat index reaching dangerous levels, please follow these reminders to prevent heat-related illnesses.
1. Prioritize Constant Hydration
-Drink Water Regularly: Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.
-Avoid Dehydrating Drinks: Limit intake of coffee, soda, and alcoholic beverages, as these can cause your body to lose fluids faster.
-Eat Water-Rich Foods: Incorporate fruits like watermelon and vegetables like cucumber into your meals.
2. Manage Outdoor Exposure
-Peak Heat Window: Stay indoors between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM when the sun is at its strongest.
-Seek Shade: If you must go outside, plan your route to stay in shaded areas or under covered walkways as much as possible.
-Check on Neighbors: Ensure the elderly and those living alone have access to fans, ventilation, or cool water.
3. Protect Your Body
-Wear Light Clothing: Choose cotton or linen fabrics in light colors. These reflect heat rather than absorbing it.
-Use Sun Protection: Carry an umbrella, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and apply sunscreen to exposed skin to prevent UV damage.
4. Recognize the Warning Signs
Be alert for the following symptoms in yourself and others:
-Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, rapid pulse, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea.
Action: Move to a cool place, loosen clothing, and sip water.
-Heat Stroke (Emergency): High body temperature (above 40°C), confusion, absence of sweat, or loss of consciousness.
