Slam Judge number 3!

✨Leandro Reyes — The Basyang Kid!✨

Leandro Reyes, also known as The Basyang Kid, is a spoken word artist, community builder, and event producer continuing the storytelling legacy of his great-grandfather, Severino “Lola Basyang” Reyes. With training in theater arts, his performances are marked by elaborative gestures and emotional depth—often described as “poetry with a surprise center.”

He is the producer of the Likhaan Creative Writing Foundation Poetry Slam and host of Third Thursdays, a long-running monthly spoken word show co-presented by Globe Telecom. In 2025, he was named DTI CITEM Artist of the Month. His poems have appeared in Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine and Postscript Magazine, and are available on Spotify and TikTok.

Leandro represented the Philippines in the Lit Up Asia Poetry Slam in Singapore and was a finalist at the Performatura Slam at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He was also a fellow of the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Writers Workshop and EXIT11: The Virtual Collaborative Program for Emerging Artists, with his work exhibited in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

In 2024, he co-produced Dancing to Music You Hate: The Philippine Remix with British poet Jasmine Gardosi, supported by the British Council. His debut poetry collection, An Abundance of Such and Such, is currently being crowdfunded.

See him on the judges’ panel at Salitaan: Slam Poetry Competition!

Slam Judge number 2!

✨Cheyenne Lasam!✨

Cheyenne Lasam is an artist living in New Zealand, making her return after a five-year hiatus from the poetry scene. During her break, she poured herself into music and lyrics, even opening for Moira dela Torre’s concert in Auckland in 2023.

Now, after years away, Cheyenne is back with more poems and new songs—works that carry the rollercoaster of emotions she has journeyed through in the last five years.

Catch her as part of our judging panel at Salitaan: Slam Poetry Competition!

📸 Mic Me Halfway

On August 2, we didn’t just gather —
we converged.
Different journeys, different joys, different jitters —
all finding rhythm at the same rest stop.
Mic Me Halfway was a shared stop on the road,
a collaboration between kindred community builders:
🎙 The South Spoken Collective — amplifying the soul of the South,
🐸 .likha — diving deep into stories that matter in the North,
☕ and — brewing spaces for connection and conversation in the middle.

Together, we created more than an open mic.
We made a map of memories —
lines of verse turned into landmarks,
laughter echoing like headlights in the dark,
and truth spoken boldly, halfway to healing.

Hosted by the ever-unreal ,
this night reminded us:
you don’t always need a destination —
just a direction, a mic, and each other.
