Celebrating the 6th Year of Campus Press Freedom!

‎Campus press plays a vital role in upholding the freedom of the press and freedom of expression within academic communities. More than just chroniclers of school events, student journalists act as watchdogs, storytellers, and advocates for truth.

‎Since the enactment of Republic Act No. 11440 on August 28, 2019, National Campus Press Freedom Day has been observed every July 25. Now in its sixth year, this annual event honors the enduring values of journalistic integrity, the right to express opinions, and the unwavering pursuit of truth.

‎Across the Philippines, student journalists are celebrated for their courage, creativity, and commitment to telling stories that matter. Their voices are the pulse of campus life—bold, independent, and essential. But amid growing challenges—administrative pressure, censorship, and budget cuts—the question remains; Is the Campus Press free or is it being silenced?

Guided by Values, Driven by Purpose: OLSHCO College Department Continues to Strive for Excellence as it Welcomes A.Y. 2025–2026 with Orientation Day 2

Despite the gloomy weather, spirits were high as the College Department of OLSHCO continued its 2025–2026 Academic Year kick-off with the second day of the college orientation. With the theme “Strive for Excellence, Guided by Values, Driven by Purpose,” students were once again reminded of the mission that binds the OLSHCO community.

The morning session featured a dialogue led by Dr. Rubelyn Esperon, who warmly welcomed first-year students from various academic organizations. In her heartfelt message, she emphasized “The Gift of Sharing”—a gift not limited to material things, but also found in three pillars: TIME, TALENT, and TREASURE. She encouraged students to be a blessing to others through compassion, kindness, and generosity. Throughout her talk, she highlighted the importance of values in one’s life, challenging the college students to take positive steps and act accordingly. During the afternoon session, students received briefings from key offices. The Office of the Registrar discussed academic processes; the Finance Office explained billing and payment procedures; and the St. Jerome Learning Resources Center introduced the available learning tools and support services.

In essence, Orientation Day 2 served as a meaningful reminder of OLSHCO’s commitment to forming students who are guided by values and driven by purpose. With these values in their hearts and guidance from mentors and leaders, the OLSCHONIANS are now more equipped and inspired to face the academic year with excellence, compassion, and a sense of purpose.

OLSHCO College Department Opens A.Y. 2025–2026 with a Heart for Excellence

On July 21, 2025, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College of Guimba, Inc. (OLSHCO) officially opened the new academic year with a meaningful orientation filled with hope, learning, and purpose.

The program began with an inspiring message from OLSHCO President, Rev. Fr. Michael Grospe, PhD, who encouraged students to DREAM big, REMEMBER and value their parents' sacrifices, and PERSEVERE. His words held great resonance: “Mangangarap ka na nga lang, ‘wag na ‘yung maliit—doon ka na sa malaki.” Following that, the rest of the day featured various speakers who introduced the school’s key offices, presented the revised Vision and Mission, and emphasized the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Programs under Community Relations and Extension Services for Social Transformation (CREST) were presented briefly but creatively, along with insights on student wellness, health and safety, and overall development, equipping students with a solid foundation for the year ahead.

This significant event was filled with inspiration, student talents, and meaningful insights, setting a positive tone for the promising year ahead. In the end, Ma’am Grezelle R. Ignacio, CSC adviser, gave the sincere closing remarks that sealed the first day through both gratitude with motivation.

OLSHCO Upholds Patriotism Through Flag Retirement Ceremony

In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 8491, Section 14), Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College of Guimba, Inc. (OLSHCO) conducted the ceremonial retirement of its Philippine national flag on July 14, 2025. The event was led by OLSHCO cadets and attended by the school community.

The program began with Ma’am Camille Rose M. Gasmido, who served as the master of ceremonies. She introduced and explained the purpose of the event. A sense of reverence filled the school community as the Philippine flag was lowered for the final time, symbolizing the end of its service. The ceremony featured a solemn procession and the folding of the national flag with “Inang Bayan” portrayed by Ma’am Jhermae Anne Castro, followed by the singing of Pilipinas Kong Mahal sung by Ma'am Nicole Anne Barangan and Sir Joseph Agustin to honor the retired flag. Cadet officers then led the entrance of the new Philippine national flag. The national anthem was sung as the new flag was raised. As per Cdt. Lt. Col. Lazaro Jovan F. Gragasin, who served as flag bearer commander, the disposal of the national flag was done with great care and respect. Instead of the traditional burning, the worn-out flag was placed in a box for burial. He described the experience as both respectful and honorable, saying it deepened his sense of duty and patriotism.

Overall, this event was not just a ceremonial practice but a meaningful opportunity to recognize the symbolism and sacrifice behind the national flag. It served to educate the public, especially the students, on the importance of honoring and respecting the Philippine flag and the values it stands for.

For the Filipinos and Our Nation! 🇵🇭

Today, June 12, we commemorate the day our ancestors stood tall against centuries of Spanish colonization. A day marked in our history by the blood, sweat, and sacrifice of brave Filipinos who dared to dream of freedom.

Happy Independence Day! 🇵🇭
