𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱, 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀

As we pen the final lines of our journey as Observer's Editorial Board, we look back with hearts full of gratitude for the stories we’ve told, the battles we’ve fought, and the growth we’ve shared. This journey has shaped us—not only as student journalists, but as individuals who dared to use their voices.

Though our time leading has ended, this is not goodbye. We remain part of the SPO family, ready to support, to write, and to continue the mission we all believe in.

On behalf of the Observer's Editorial Board A.Y. 2024-2025, thank you for walking with us and for trusting our voices. To the next Editorial Board, may you carry on with the same fire that kept us going. Continue to be bold, to question, to speak, and to write the stories that matter. For the ink we leave behind is not just ours—it becomes yours to carry forward.

𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗜𝗗: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲

‎One of the darkest chapters in Philippine history unfolded during Martial Law—a time when democracy was silenced, fear ruled the streets, and freedom was stolen. Today, however, the nation takes a bold turn, demanding accountability, amplifying the voices once pushed aside, and standing firm against corruption.

‎At its core, corruption is the foul fruit of greed. It doesn't just hide behind closed doors; it's blatant. Promised projects remain unseen yet their lavish lifestyles, funded by the people's money, are flaunted without shame. Every luxury purchased is paid for with the blood and sweat of Filipinos who struggle to make ends meet. But one thing is certain: corruption may thrive in the shadows, but the anger of the people will drag it to daylight.

‎Yesterday, September 21, anti-corruption rallies were held, drawing thousands of individuals demanding leaders who trade public service for self-interest to be held accountable. In every step taken and in every unrelenting call for justice lies a powerful message: greed and abuse of power can no longer be brushed aside. What was once whispered in frustration is now shouted openly, and the eyes that have finally opened cannot be shut again.

‎The anger is real—it echoed through the corner of the streets and it pierced through the air. These rallies are a mirror held up to authority, reflecting the deepening rift between promises made and promises kept, between duty owed and duty abandoned. As the crowd swells, so does the warning: corruption may buy time, but it cannot buy silence. In this clash of outrage and justice, the people's voice will rise unshaken.

We may not be out in the streets today, but our hearts march with those who stand for truth and justice. In prayer, we join hands as one nation, asking the Lord to heal our land and put an end to corruption.

No political colors will divide us—only one banner unites us: we are Filipinos, standing as one. ✊🇵🇭

‎The Student Teachers' Association (STA) successfully conducted its Deployment Orientation for the Bachelor of Elementaty Education (BEED), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science, Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics, and Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education Major in Food and Services Management (BTVTEd-FSM) students on September 15, 2025. This orientation is a pivotal event for aspiring pre-service teachers, equipping them for their upcoming field experiences.

‎The orientation was formally opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Guillermo Sodomia, Head of the Teacher Education Department and STA Adviser II. He emphasized that the orientation is not just a procedural step but a crucial moment of preparation and excitement. He reminded the Field Study (FS) students that their role extends beyond teaching minds to touching hearts and transforming lives.

‎To further prepare the pre-service teachers, Dr. Imelda A. Amodia, Division Senior High School Coordinator, comprehensively explained the rules and responsibilities of FS students. She clarified key concepts and terms and thoroughly discussed the guidelines for the deployment of pre-service teachers. Additionally, to ensure the FS students were well-versed in the legal aspects of their roles, Dr. Remie D. Puno, Education Program Supervisor, discussed the child protection policy, clearly differentiating between bullying and discrimination.

‎Following these informative sessions, representatives from invited review centers, including Falcon's Twins Review Center, the newly established Cognito Review Center, and Niño E. Listones Review Center, introduced and promoted their services.

The event was formally closed by Dr. Arnie M. Cadiente, STA Adviser I, who reminded the FS students to be punctual at their respective schools.

The Student Teachers Association (STA) held its pinning ceremony on September 15, 2025, at the Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc Campus Covered Court to officially send off its fourth-year student teachers for their internships.

The program began with a mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Flor Vincent Taoc, which set a tone of reflection and gratitude. The homily highlighted the unseen struggles, sacrifices, and silent challenges of student life. The student teachers were reminded that while learning is not easy, it is through these challenges that they grow into stronger and wiser individuals. He also emphasized the important role of parents, who often make the greatest sacrifices, and urged the students to honor and respect them, reminding them that respect is a seed planted today that will bear fruit when they become parents themselves.

After the mass, Dr. Guillermo M. Sodomia, Adviser II of STA and Head of the Teacher Education Department, officially opened the ceremony by welcoming the students and their parents. He stressed that student teachers are valued members of the academic community and play a vital role in the teaching profession.

An inspirational message was also given by Mr. Elmer Abinales, an alumnus of EVSU Ormoc under the BSED Mathematics program, Administrative Officer II of DepEd Ormoc City Division, and part-time mathematics instructor at EVSU Ormoc. He reflected on his experiences as a student, noting that education during his time was more challenging compared to today. He reminded the student teachers that teaching is not only about developing the minds of learners but also about touching their hearts. Sharing his own story, he recalled how a teacher’s faith in him encouraged him to finish his studies, showing the lifelong impact that educators can make. He highlighted that “to teach is to touch lives.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Maricel A. Gomez, Campus Director, congratulated and welcomed the 410 pre-service teachers from the Education Department. She described this as a long-awaited moment that marks the beginning of their professional journey. She encouraged them to maximize their internship experience and reminded them to always practice kindness toward their students.

As their names were called, the student teachers, accompanied by their proud parents, walked to the stage to receive their nameplates and candles, symbols of their journey as future educators.

To formally close the program, Dr. Arnie M. Cadiente, STA Adviser I, delivered his closing remarks. He congratulated everyone for achieving this milestone and officially marked the start of the internship journey for the pre-service teachers.

𝗨-𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒔.

Disagreement is not a flaw of human relationships. It is proof that our minds are alive, that our perspectives are wide, and that we see the same world from different windows. The danger lies not in the differences themselves, but in the distance we allow them to create.

It often begins in moments that may seem small. Take for instance the Supreme Student Government (SSG) elections. Our support may rise from opposite sides, but both emerge from the same desire: for something better ahead.

Friendships sometimes falter here. A room once filled with easy laughter falls silent after heated conversations, as if affection must bow to contrasting opinion. A misunderstanding can turn the air heavy, with no words exchanged for days, weeks, months, or more. It's as if pride whispers that agreement is more important than respect.

Yet reconciliation often arrives not with dramatic words, but with sincere gestures. A simple snack given without explanation becomes an unspoken bridge. The bitterness subsides, and in its place, the warmth of connection silently comes back.

These moments uncover an underlying truth: kindness, respect, and small acts of initiative weigh more than the need to win an argument. One can still clap for another’s victory, even when their own choice fell short. A group can fuse conflicting ideas to create something greater than what any single mind could have thought. And even in the heat of disagreement, we can choose patience, preserving a bond that matters more than the debate itself.

We are not meant to think in unison but rather to grow through our differences. Opinions may disperse in many directions, but hearts anchored in respect always find their way back to each other.

Our differences in opinion should never be a reason to distance our hearts, for connection is stronger than division.
