𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱

On October 20, 1944—exactly 81 years ago—during the height of World War II, a moment was carved into history. The quiet shores of Palo, Leyte, became the stage for one of the most defining moments in the story of the Filipino people. On this day, General Douglas Macarthur, who spearheaded the U.S. Allied Forces, fulfilled his historic promise to return and liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation.

His words, “I shall return,” once spoken in the face of defeat, became a beacon of hope for millions. When MacArthur’s boots finally touched Philippine soil, that promise made in the middle of the ocean ignited not only hope but also the burning patriotism of an entire nation.

In recognition of this historic event, Republic Act No. 1745 declared October 20 of every year as a special holiday to commemorate the arrival of the valiant troops who fought and sacrificed their lives for Philippine independence.

Let this day serve as a reminder that the liberty we cherish today was not freely given, but bravely won—through courage, sacrifice, and an unyielding love for our motherland. As the waves continue to kiss the shores of Leyte, may they forever carry the echoes of that fateful day—reminding every Filipino that this was where freedom landed, and where the indomitable spirit of a nation once again rose to its feet.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗛

During the final Question and Answer segment of Miss Grand International 2025, Emma Mary Tiglao, representing the Philippines, delivered a thoughtful and courageous response that reflected her integrity as a journalist and advocate for justice.

“As someone who reports these kinds of stories, I really want to use the power of balance—us, people, to be educated and aware, for us to not be scammed, and the help of the government to enhance their justice system for the scammers to be behind bars, to be accountable. Because one day, I hope that we will live in a peaceful world where no one should deceive just to survive.”

Her words underscore the importance of media responsibility, public awareness, and justice—values that every journalist must uphold. Tiglao's answer serves as a reminder that the pursuit of truth is not only about exposing deception, but also about restoring balance, protecting the vulnerable, and shaping a society built on trust and peace.

𝗟𝗘𝗧 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗘

In her powerful address at Miss Grand International 2025, Emma Mary Tiglao of the Philippines reminded the world that the pen, the platform, and the voice of a journalist can shape peace.

Her words echo through the hearts of those who seek truth:

“We are not born in fear—but to hope, to love, and to live in peace. Peace begins when parents teach children with compassion, leaders embody humility, youth find their purpose, and when we live with empathy and kindness. Let love be the grandest voice to peace.”

For us, campus journalists, her message becomes a call to continue writing with courage and conscience, to shed light on truth, and to believe that love remains the strongest force for change.

𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞-𝗧𝗢-𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗠𝗚𝗜 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗣𝗛!

The Philippines’ very own Emma Mary Tiglao—a proud journalist—has been crowned Miss Grand International 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, securing a back-to-back victory for the country and making history as the Philippines' second consecutive winner, following the footsteps of last year's champ, CJ Opiaza.

Once again, the Philippine National Anthem echoed on the international stage—a moment that filled every Filipino heart with pride.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, Emma’s win is a celebration of journalism with purpose—a reminder that beauty and intellect can move hand in hand in championing truth, justice, and the voices of the unheard.

Congratulations, Emma! You’ve not only brought home the crown but also elevated the power of storytelling to the international stage.

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS! MABUHAY ANG GANDANG PILIPINA!

𝗨-𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝑯𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒐𝒔

Have you ever felt like the world around you keeps spinning too fast while you're still trying to find your balance? In the university journey, it's easy to get caught up in the rush of deadlines, group works, and endless exams that seem to define our worth. Sometimes, the weight of expectations—both from others and ourselves—feels too heavy to carry. But somewhere in that chaos, there are quiet moments that remind us why we started: a smile from a classmate, a word of encouragement from a teacher, or that simple feeling of relief when you finally understand a lesson you once struggled with.

University life isn't just about academic survival; it's about learning how to keep your spirit alive amidst uncertainty. It's about discovering that even when your plans fall apart, your purpose doesn't. Every failure, sleepless night, and cup of coffee shared with a friend becomes part of a story that shapes who you are becoming.

When life inside the university walls feels dark and overwhelming, remember that it's okay to pause and breathe. Growth doesn't happen all at once—it takes time, courage, and a little bit of faith. Because in every struggle, there's a lesson; in every exhaustion, there's strength forming within you. And one day, you'll look back and realize that these moments of chaos are the very reasons you became stronger, wiser, and more human.

𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗜𝗗: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀, 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁.

Have you ever felt like the days are moving too fast, yet you’re stuck in the same cycle of stress and sleepless nights? Midterms feel like storms we can’t escape—loud, heavy, and endless. We keep going, even when our bodies beg for rest, hoping that every page read will somehow lead us to peace.

We chase grades as if they define who we are—but do they really? We push ourselves past exhaustion, fueled by caffeine and quiet anxiety, thinking that maybe, just maybe, our worth depends on the numbers written on a paper.

We trade rest for reviews, laughter for deadlines, and peace for passing scores. When was the last time we truly laughed without thinking about requirements? The world outside continues to move, yet we remain buried under the weight of expectations.

But learning isn’t meant to drain us—it’s meant to guide us. Maybe it’s time to pause, breathe, and ask ourselves: are we learning to live, or just living to survive? Sometimes, doing our best is already enough.

Because when the storm of midterms finally fades, the grades may fade too—but the strength, discipline, and courage we’ve gained will always stay. And perhaps that’s the real success we’ve been chasing all along.
