𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈 | University presidents, school officials, student council officers, and student journalists from higher education institutions (HEIs) across Region VIII attended the consultative meeting held at Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS) on July 24, 2025.

The consultative meeting was intended to be led by the Honorable Senator Bam Aquino, principal sponsor of the Free College Law. However, due to inclement weather, Senator Aquino’s flight was cancelled. The meeting was instead presided over by Mr. Marco Javelosa, representative of the Senator’s office and a key education advocate.

Key concerns were raised regarding the delayed release of government funds to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), with Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) citing unpaid allocations amounting to ₱140 million and ₱300 million, respectively, from 2022 to 2024. Dr. Victor Cañezo, BiPSU President and President of PASUC VIII, emphasized that these delays result in severe operational deficits and significantly hinder the delivery of quality education.

In addition, student journalists raised pressing concerns about the limitations of Republic Act No. 7079, known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, which they believe needs updating to reflect the current media landscape. The declining learning competencies among Filipino students were also highlighted as a national concern.

Despite Senator Aquino’s absence, Mr. Javelosa assured the attendees that all concerns raised during the meeting would be promptly relayed and addressed, and that actionable responses will follow to avoid further setbacks in higher education development.

The consultative meeting adjourned with a collective commitment to continue dialogues between the government and educational stakeholders and to work collaboratively toward sustainable and inclusive educational reforms in the region.

𝗙𝗚𝗙: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁, 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗱𝗼!

Life is a constant journey filled with thorns, bumps, gaps, and barricades—the path isn’t always paved. There are moments when exhaustion catches up to you, but through your resilience, courage, and unwavering choice to keep going, you’ve made it this far. And in moments of reflection, the quote, “Malayo pa pero malayo na,” rings in your ears.

The road wasn’t easy. You endured so much to get to where you are now. With every journey you conquered, you took a silent trophy with you and I hope you carry it close to your heart wherever you go.

Let it serve as a reminder of how brave and strong you’ve been. Let it be the motivation that pushes you forward when the wall seems too high to climb, or the gap is too wide to cross. Remember the journey you’ve been through. You’ve made it before and you will make it again, like you always do.

How about you, Evsunistas? When the road gets tough, what keeps you going?

𝑼-𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑩𝒆 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚

There will be days when we question where we are and if all this effort is worth it. But in those quiet moments—in between the noise and the pressure—we are reminded why we started. This photo is more than a snapshot; it’s a message to every dreamer walking the long, uncertain road: growth doesn’t always look like movement. Sometimes, it looks like stillness, like pausing to breathe, to gather strength, and to hold on to the vision that keeps us going.

To the students, the workers, the believers—this is for you. One day, the early mornings, the silent tears, and the quiet sacrifices will bloom into something real. One day, you will look back and thank yourself for not giving up. Because even when no one sees it, the dream is alive in you. And one day soon, what you only imagined will no longer live in your mind—but in your hands, your title, your uniform, your life. One day, these dreams will be our reality.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | Another on-site orientation was held today, July 16, 2025, at the EVSU-OC Covered Court, bringing together parents and students of approved waitlist applicants and transferees from various programs to explicate the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

This annual initiative is part of the university’s commitment to promoting awareness of the Free Higher Education (FHE) program. It serves to guide incoming students and their families through the system—providing detailed information on qualifications, coverage, and essential processes. Moreover, the orientation highlights the available support services to help students maximize their educational opportunities and ease their transition into university life.

𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗜𝗗: 𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀.

Life has never been easy. Tides rise and fall, thunder rattles the courage within us, and disasters threaten what little peace we have. Yet sometimes, it’s the chaos we cling to—not because we want it, but because it feels like all we’ve ever known.

Work, academic demands, bills—these are just some of the reasons we keep ourselves confined, surrounded by the cold clicks of keyboards, unread messages, skipped chapters. We keep striving for more, for just enough to get by… and in doing so, we sometimes fail to see what truly matters—family, friends, the ones who love us without condition.

In our effort to survive, we chase storms—pushed by pride and unreachable dreams. But in the rush, we forget the beauty of sunsets: their quiet, their calm, their reminder of what home feels like.

So, do we really ignore the sunsets? Or are we just forced to run—always running, just to survive?

And maybe, somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten: sunsets are where our hearts live—where our loved ones wait. And storms? We chase them... only because we believe we have to—for good.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | EVSU-OC's BEED Students Clinch Special Award in Indonesia-based International Poster Competition

In celebration of the 16th Anniversary of STIKES Bethesda YAKKUM, a health-focused university in Indonesia, an International Poster Competition was held virtually, gathering undergraduate students from public and private institutions around the globe. Among dozens of entries, a group of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students at Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc Campus (EVSU-OC) quietly made a mark, securing the “The Best Color Composition” award—without even expecting it.

With the theme “Empowering the Youth: A Brighter Tomorrow,” the competition encouraged student creativity around issues relevant to young people. Although initially labeled for “health students,” participation was allowed for any undergraduate student as long as the submission aligned with the theme—an opening that EVSU-OC's research instructor quickly spotted. Organized by STIKES Bethesda YAKKUM in Indonesia, the poster competition was part of the school’s 16th founding anniversary celebration. Participants were required to submit original digital poster designs aligned with the theme. The competition ran from April 7 to May 8, 2025.

According to Aira Jane A. Daisog, who submitted the group’s entry on behalf of her team, “At first, hesitant pa mi kay naka-indicate man sa guidelines na ‘for health students.’ However, giingnan mi ni sir na okay ra daw kay maka join ra daw ang tanan as long align sa theme ang poster.” That small nudge led the group of eight to take a shot at representing their school on an international stage.

The team—composed of Aira Jane A. Daisog, Jomel Cabarubias, Jessa Mae Ducalang, Jessa Mae Cabintoy, John Anthony Barda, Marriella Trixie Bugtai, Sheba Marie Romero, and Sarah Casuco—had little time and even less experience.

“Wala jud mi kaayo nangandam ato kay gicram ra namo syag 1 day,” Aira candidly shared. “Wala juy kahibaw mo layout nor mo design og poster… we submitted the poster without expecting anything.” With the promise of plus points in research as a motivator and no formal coaching, they worked together—clumsily at first—until a submission was born.

Jomel Cabarubias adds, “Nag tibangay lang gyud mi unsaon namo siya… we really focused on the right combination of color to make our design stand out.”

Despite their limited skills, their collaborative effort, instinct for visual harmony, and willingness to try paid off. Their poster won “The Best Color Composition,” one of the competition’s special awards.

The judging took place from May 9 to 16, with the announcement made on May 20, 2025—though the team only discovered their win around a month later through an Instagram post. Initially unsure if it even mattered, they kept the win to themselves—until their July 3 research defense. It was there that one of the group members shared the news. Their instructor, Dr. Mabitad, reacted with pride and amazement. “We were really shocked sa reaction ni ma’am… na feel gyud namo unsa sya ka proud sa among nakuha,” Aira said.

Despite their win, some challenges remain unresolved. The group has yet to receive the promised certificate and coaching money. “Until now… wapa gihapon sila ni respond jud,” Aira notes, after late follow-up attempts.

Still, what began as a scramble for bonus points turned into a lesson in belief. In the words of Jomel: “When we found out that we won, we were all so happy and proud. It was such a fulfilling and inspiring moment… kay ang amoa lang gyud ato is maka pass.”

Their story isn’t about winning first place. It’s about students—busy, under pressure, and unsure—who said yes to an opportunity and ended up representing their campus with pride. They may have entered the competition for compliance, but they left it with something far greater: proof that even unpolished talent, when paired with courage and collaboration, can shine on an international stage.

𝗙𝗚𝗙: 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲'𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

In the blink of an eye, life shifts. One moment we’re on summer break, wishing time would slow down… the next, we’re slipping into togas, ready to graduate. (blink, blink)

We dream of what’s ahead: success, fulfillment, becoming who we’re meant to be. We’re so close. But sometimes, in the rush toward tomorrow, we forget to live in today.
We get caught up in things that don’t really matter.

So pause. Breathe. Look around. This moment, this exact one, won’t come again.

The future can wait. Right now, let yourself be here.

𝗨-𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔: 𝑫𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔.

The heart holds on to everything—even the things we think we’ve forgotten.

It's easy to get drifted in new friendships, fresh faces, and exciting memories. But while there’s beauty in new chapters, they should never come at the cost of forgetting the ones who stood by us when no one else did—the old friends who saw us before the world knew our name.

There’s something intriguing about new friendships. The curiosity, the inside jokes that form overnight, the thrill of connecting with someone unfamiliar. They bring new adventures, new ways of seeing the world.

But old friends? They’ve been there for the unpolished, raw, and uncertain version of you. The quiet moments. The breakdowns. The dreams you whispered when they barely made sense. They stayed when life got complicated, and they heard you—even when your voice was muffled.

Friendships change with time and distance. Life gets hectic, new circles form, new faces come in. And it’s easy to believe that those old friends will always be there, understanding, patient. But silence stretches into distance. And slowly, the memories fade—the stories, the laughter, the connection.

Old friends don’t need constant updates or daily calls. But they deserve to be remembered. A simple text. A spontaneous call. Just a small act showing: “𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆.”

Because the heart remembers it all.
