Love is a short word with just four letters and one syllable, yet it carries profound meaning. Love is complex and often described as a deep feeling of affection, attachment, or care toward someone or something. Love comes in many forms: romantic, family, and friendship and it plays a big role in our lives.
The main question that arises is: What is the purpose of love? Some people say love has no specific purpose; rather, love itself is the purpose of life. We all want to love and be loved, and many people find true love in their faith, especially in God.
This idea was the focus of Eylim Christian Academyโs (ECA) Feb-Ibig event, with the theme โLord, Steady My Heart.โ The event, which was held on February 17 and organized by the Supreme Student Government (SSG), was a special time for students to reflect on love and how faith plays a role in it.
The event kicked off with an energetic roll call led by the masters of ceremony, Lorenzo Fernandez and Hanica Ganigan. The students cheered as their sections were called, setting an exciting tone for the day. Lorenzo Fernandez then shared an inspiring Bible verse about love, 1 John 4:19: โWe love because He first loved us.โ He followed this with words of encouragement, reminding students, โYou are deeply cherished and appreciatedโnot just today, but every single day.โ To engage the audience, he asked students how they celebrated Valentineโs Day, leading to a lively and laughter-filled discussion.
Angela Bugayong, SSG President, further captured the students' attention by reading anonymous messages submitted through the NGL app, a platform used to express unspoken feelings and emotions. Before officially starting the program, a heartfelt prayer was led by SSG Vice President Shania Corpuz, asking for Godโs love and guidance to be at the center of the celebration.
The event then transitioned into a series of engaging activities, beginning with a stunning duet performance by Kevin Munoz and Keziah Afos. One of the highlights of the program was the Yarn Segment, led by SSG President Angela Bugayong. Each student had a yarn tied to their wrist and was encouraged to tie it to someone they considered important or a role model. This touching activity allowed students to express their appreciation and emotions in a non-verbal yet meaningful way.
The excitement continued with fun games, such as Caption This and the Telepathy Game, bringing laughter and bonding among students. However, the most awaited part of the event was the inspirational talk by guest speaker Engr. Elim Aquino, joined by TLE teacher Sir Derick Dioquino, and co-host Teacher Jhaira Santiago. They answered different questions about love and relationships, giving valuable advice in an entertaining and relatable way. One of the most memorable moments was when they answered the question, โHow do you move on?โ Their advice: โItโs okay to cry, let it all out, and pray to God. But to protect yourself from getting hurt, โYou reserve your love.โโ โ Sir Derick Dioquino & Engr. Elim Aquino
The program ended with closing remarks from Teacher Mifa Villamin. Engr. Elim Aquino was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her participation. The final highlight of the event was the announcement of the King and Queen of Hearts 2025, titles given to the students who received the most yarn ties on their wrists.
In todayโs world, where love can sometimes be misunderstood, ECAโs Feb-Ibig event served as a reminder that true love is about faith, selflessness, and genuine care for others. Through fun activities, reflections, and meaningful discussions, students left the event with a better understanding of what love means.
