Stop saying a diploma or degree is “just a piece of paper.”

Because that "piece of paper" carries years of tears, sacrifices, sleepless nights, skipped meals, and moments of self-doubt that were bravely conquered.

Behind every diploma is a story.
A story of a student who walked under the scorching sun just to reach school on time.
A story of a working student who juggled jobs just to pay for tuition, often putting themselves last.
A story of someone who had to leave their family behind to chase a dream, missing birthdays, holidays and milestones.
A story of someone who failed, broke down, questioned their worth but stood up anyway.

That piece of paper represents resilience.
It’s not just ink on parchment, it’s every single hour spent reviewing when the world was sleeping, every little prayer whispered before an exam, every moment when giving up seemed easier… but wasn’t chosen.

And let’s not forget the families behind it.
The parents who chose to eat less so their child could have allowance.
The siblings who had to give way and wait their turn.
The grandparents who stayed up late just to wait for their apo to come home safe from class.
The entire village of people who believed, cheered and helped even in silence.

Yes, some may downplay it because "not everyone needs a degree to succeed."
And while that's true, it doesn't mean we get to belittle those who chose and fought to earn one.
Because that "piece of paper" may be the first one in the family.
It may be the very key that breaks generational poverty.
It may be a promise fulfilled to a late parent.
It may be someone’s proof that they can rise above their past.

So the next time you're tempted to say, "it's just a piece of paper,"
pause and look closer.

Because if it were really that easy, if success, knowledge, and discipline could simply be printed then everyone would have one.
But they don’t.

Why?
Because it's not just a paper.
It's a battle trophy.
It’s an answered prayer.
It’s a monument to all the “I can’t” moments that were bravely turned into “I did.”

So let us honor every graduate whether they finished in flying colors or simply made it across the finish line.
Let’s celebrate every person who pushed through despite being doubted, despite being broke, despite being broken.
Because they didn’t just earn a diploma.
They earned the right to be proud.

To those still on the journey: keep going.
To those who never got the chance: your worth is never defined by paper, but know that those who did earn it gave up a lot to hold it.

And to those holding their diplomas close, never let anyone diminish its meaning.
Because behind that certificate is a warrior.
And that warrior is you.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla has been disqualified by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) from vying for the position of Ombudsman, according to an Abogado.com.ph source.

The source said the disqualification stemmed from a pending case filed with the Ombudsman involving Remulla’s role in the arrest and transfer of former President Rodrigo Duterte to The Hague.

Following the decision, Remulla reportedly informed DOJ officials he is no longer a candidate.
