Are Junior Designers Doomed in 2025?
Short answer? NO.
But things are different now.
After talking to over 100 new designers, one thing is clear:
It’s harder to find junior design jobs right now.
But here's the good news:
If you're bold and strategic, you can still stand out.
Here’s what you should do if you are job hunting as a designer today 👇
1. Start freelancing now
Even if it’s unpaid at first, it helps you learn fast, build a portfolio, & connect with clients. Real work > just applying to jobs all day.
2. Be open to learning many tools
Try Framer, Jitter, Spline, and other design tools.
You don’t need to master them all, just be familiar. It helps a lot.
3. Build your personal brand
You are your most important project. Have a clean profile picture and a simple but clear bio, and show your best work on social media & your portfolio.
4. Post regularly
Share your designs, ideas, and lessons online. Most people don’t post, so this helps you stand out fast.
5. Learn business terms
Know how to talk about results, not just design.
Words like: Customer retention, conversion, and churn.
This will help you impress clients or employers.
6. Use AI in smart ways
Tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other plugins are powerful. Use them to boost your process, not replace it. ✨
7. Join communities
Find Discord groups, Facebook groups, or attend meetups. Share feedback, join contests, help others. Opportunities come from people, not just job boards.

Don’t wait for the job market to change.
