How do you greet your family and friends during Chinese New Year?

Do you use "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (Mandarin) or "Kung Hei Fat Choi" (Cantonese)?

Both are commonly used during the Lunar New Year, but did you know that these phrases don't actually mean "happy new year"? They literally translate to “good luck getting more wealth”. These phrases are used to wish blessings and fortune to those around you.

A greeting that ethnic Chinese prefer to use is "Xin Nian Kuai Le" which means "happy new year" and pronounced as "shin nee-an kwai luh".

No matter how you greet your loved ones, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar wishes you a healthy and prosperous year ahead.

Happy Chinese New Year, Nortehanons!
