Toolbox Topic for the week: (HMI) - Interactions Between Heavy Equipment and Workers
As we get close to finishing the project, sometimes we get too relaxed, parang feeling graduation na. But remember, heavy equipment is still moving around, and that’s where accidents can happen if we drop our guard.
Key Points:
Complacency: Don’t act like it’s already payday. Stay alert around equipment.
Fatigue: Long hours can make us slow—both operators and workers. Hindi tayo robot, so rest and focus.
Tight spaces: As the site gets smaller, machines and people get closer—parang sardinas. More chance of bumping into each other.
Supervision: Supervisors, wag muna all paperwork—keep your eyes on the equipment and people.
Last-minute changes: Sudden changes = sudden hazards. Hindi ito surprise party.
Communication: Don’t just assume—use proper signals or radio. Remember, guessing is not a safety strategy.
Escape routes: With scaffolding and barriers removed, safe paths may disappear. Know where to run, just in case.
Pressure: Operators, don’t rush. Safety first, shortcut never wins.
Closing:
Finishing the job safely is like crossing the finish line with style—complete and safe, not limping or injured. So let’s not relax too early. Stay sharp, stay safe, and let’s all go home in one piece.
