In a world filled with noise, the voices of the youth echoed far and wide.
The annual Grade 12 Symposium was held in the AVR on April 11 with the theme “Cultural Voices: Empowering Youth to Embrace Diversity, Critical Thinking, and Advocacy in the Digital Age.” As part of their Media, Information, and Literacy project, students set up interactive booths at the podium and welcomed two guest speakers to take part in the event. First was Dean Rhea Rowena Apolinario, the current dean of UP Diliman’s School of Library and Information Studies, who spoke on youth empowerment and historical awareness through fiction, while Miss Nina Floreza Liu, an SHSQC alumna and former Rappler multimedia producer, discussed the role of digital media literacy among the youth during elections.
The program continued with a fashion show presented by the Grade 11 students, featuring designs inspired by the works of GAMABA awardees while adding their own personal touch to the cultural pieces. Finally, the day ended with a research colloquium, where selected Grade 12 research groups presented their studies alongside representatives from The Seed Montessori School.
Though this symposium is the culminating event for the Grade 12 seniors, it continues to serve as a reminder of what the creative voices of the youth are capable of when given the platform to speak, create, and shape the future.
