I SMELL A GOAL! ⚽🥅

Stepping into Blue Lock for the first time, this 2026 live-action adaptation absolutely fired me up! Every match has its own big fight feel and signature plays that ultimately seal the victory for each team. That's what I love about sports stories because the players are constantly pushing themselves to their limits, and you never know what can happen in a game.

Fumiya Takahashi leads the charge as Yoichi Isagi, convincingly portraying his transformation from a polite teammate into a driven egoist. Kaito Sakurai adds plenty of energy as Bachira. The other characters were also well-cast. However, I wish some rivals had received more screen time, though the brief backstories still established their motivations. Meanwhile, the lighting and stadium sets effectively captured the high-pressure atmosphere I was looking for. It's just that the obvious CGI backgrounds became distracting during the fast-motion sequences.

In the end, I'm impressed by how much the film accomplishes while covering only the first half of the first season. It left me curious about these characters and their evolving rivalries, so I'm definitely checking out the anime while looking forward to Part 2!

SURVIVE WHAT'S COMING. 🦖

HOLY S**T! Experiencing The End of Oak Street in 4DX is a different type of thrill, although you really can't go wrong with IMAX either. The film has a little bit of everything, making it more fun than your typical dinosaur survival concept. Following the Platt family after a cosmic event transports their entire 1980s suburban neighborhood into a prehistoric world, it blends sci-fi, family drama, comedy, and wild adventure into one surprisingly unpredictable ride.

The '80s setting gives it a nostalgic Spielbergian tone, especially with its fascination with the unknown. I loved how the film made me wonder what would happen next, but the emotional core was what really got me. There's a particular scene that left me genuinely speechless, and I'm sure you'll gasp too when you see it. As things unfold, it eventually introduces a time-travel element I found deeply moving. Director David Robert Mitchell, who created It Follows, expertly builds the slow-burn dread here. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway carries the film with her standout performance as a troubled mother, while Ewan McGregor also nails his nuanced character, especially during his late-game heroics.

Unfortunately, the mystery doesn't entirely pay off. Some plot points feel underdeveloped, and the ending is frankly weird. The children and several supporting characters could have benefited from stronger backstories. Still, I became more invested in them as the stakes continued to rise. By the way, Michael Giacchino's score is, once again, unmatched. He just gets it.

Overall, The End of Oak Street is one of the most entertaining dinosaur films I've watched in a while. The strange finale may leave you scratching your head, but the journey there is a damn good time. I can absolutely see this as a modern-day Jurassic Park with its own identity.

A BRAND NEW DAY STARTS NOW. 🕸️

HOLY THWIP! I'm not crying, you are. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything I wanted from an MCU Spider-Man movie and then some. Instead of leaning into multiverse theatrics, it embraces a grounded, street-level story that puts Peter Parker front and center. Four years after the spell erased him from everyone's memory, Peter is more mature, yet more isolated and lonelier than ever, forced to figure out whether he can truly balance being Spider-Man without losing himself in the process. Tom Holland gives his strongest performance yet. You can see every ounce of grief, exhaustion, hope, and sacrifice in his eyes. He has fully mastered both Peter Parker and Spider-Man, making it rewarding to witness his growth over the past decade.

The supporting cast understands exactly what this story needs. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, as MJ and Ned, beautifully complement the emotional side of Peter's journey, while Jon Bernthal's Punisher is an absolute gem. His chemistry with Tom Holland feels effortless, and their back-and-forth is easily one of the movie's biggest highlights. On the other hand, I wish Michael Mando's Scorpion and a few of the other villains had more to do, but they still served their purpose well. Also, that glimpse of Hulk's mean side had me psyched! The real standout for me, though, was Sadie Sink, who made the most of her role in spectacular fashion. I loved her reveal too!

Now, let's get into the action. Spider-Man moves like he does in the games, and the comic-inspired poses in the film as he swings through New York are simply amazing. Director Destin Daniel Cretton has a clear vision for this character, knowing exactly when to turn up the intensity and when to let the emotional moments breathe. On that note, Michael Giacchino's score is chef's kiss, and the soundtrack delivers surefire hits.

Brand New Day instantly joins Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 among my favorite live action Spider-Man films. I never found myself waiting for a bigger multiverse threat because the personal story was already more than enough. It's about being both Peter Parker and Spider-Man, something I believe many people can relate to in their own lives. At its core, it's also a reminder that we don't have to do this alone. We can always have each other's backs through the highs and lows. Man, this was so inspiring. Thank you, and I love you, Spidey! 🫶
