If there is one artist who beautifully captured the true meaning of Christ as King, it is the late JOEY VELASCO.

I truly miss him. I’ve watched his gut-wrenching documentaries about the poor, and used his artworks many times in my homilies and talks because they show Christ with the people especially the poor, the forgotten, and the little ones.

His art brings to life Jesus’ own words: “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do to Me.”

Rest in peace, Sir Joey.

Thank you for showing us the face of Christ in the faces of the people He loves.

Happy CHRIST THE KING Sunday! The song “Hesus na Aking Kapatid” says, “Tulutan Mo’ng aking mata mamulat sa katotohanan: Ikaw, P**n, makikilala sa taong mapagkumbaba.” This reminds us of what Christ’s kingship truly means — HUMBLE SERVICE, hindi hambog.

The people we love remain with us even when we can no longer hold their hand or hear their voice, because real love comes from God, and whatever comes from God cannot be broken.

So, keep loving.

1. Para sa namatayan ng mahal sa buhay.
2. Para sa natatakot na mawalan ng mahal sa buhay.

• FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE and
• FOR THOSE WHO ARE AFRAID TO LOSE A LOVED ONE
— the Gospel reading today is for you.

Here on earth, our love depends on being close to each other, being present, and sharing moments in time.

We get scared of losing people.
We get scared of growing apart.
We get scared of not having enough time.

But Jesus tells us that the love in heaven is different. It is fuller, deeper, and purer because it comes from God, who is Love Himself.

In heaven, we don’t stop loving. We love even more. We love perfectly. We love without fear or goodbye.

In heaven, every relationship is healed.

In heaven, every wound is fixed.

In heaven, every distance is gone.

The love we experience now in our families, friendships, and marriages is just a beginning; a small sign pointing to a greater love that has no end and no limits.

So today, let this Gospel give you peace:

For those who have lost a spouse, a parent, a child, a friend: Jesus is telling you today that the bonds formed in God do not disappear. Whatever love you hold in your heart, whatever longing, distance, or separation, God promises that none of it is wasted. THEY ARE TRANSFORMED. They are lifted into something greater than what we could ever experience on earth.
