TOP 5 MOST INTENSE CYCLONES IN RECORDED HISTORY

NOTE: This is based on their wind speed, damage, power, diameter, and casualties.

1. Typhoon Tip (1979)

With a record-low central pressure of 870 hPa (25.69 inHg) and maximum sustained winds of 190 mph (306 km/h), Typhoon Tip is considered the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded. Its diameter was approximately 2,220 km (1,380 miles), making it the largest tropical cyclone on record.

2. Hurricane Patricia (2015)

This hurricane had the highest one-minute sustained winds on record at 215 mph (346 km/h) and a central pressure of 872 hPa (25.75 inHg). The storm caused significant damage and flooding in Mexico.

3. Typhoon Haiyan (2013)

With sustained winds of 195 mph (314 km/h) and gusts up to 275 mph (443 km/h), Typhoon Haiyan caused catastrophic damage and loss of life in the Philippines. The estimated death toll was around 6,300 people, and the damage was approximately $2.8 billion.

4. Hurricane Katrina (2005)

This hurricane caused unprecedented damage and flooding along the Gulf Coast, particularly in New Orleans. The storm's central pressure was 902 hPa (26.64 inHg), with sustained winds of 175 mph (282 km/h). The estimated damage was around $125 billion, making it one of the costliest hurricanes in history.

5. Typhoon Meranti (2016)

With sustained winds of 195 mph (314 km/h) and a central pressure of 890 hPa (26.28 inHg), Typhoon Meranti caused significant damage and disruption in the Philippines and China. The estimated damage was around $4.9 billion.

TOP 5 STRONGEST CYCLONES IN RECORDED HISTORY TO HIT LAND

1. Typhoon Tip (1979): Although it didn't make landfall at its peak intensity, Typhoon Tip had a record-low central pressure of 870 hPa (25.69 inHg) and maximum sustained winds of 190 mph (306 kph). When it made landfall in Japan, its winds had slowed to 130 km/h, but it still caused significant damage and 600 mudslides.

2. Typhoon Haiyan (2013): With sustained winds of 195 mph (314 kph) and gusts up to 275 mph (443 kph), Typhoon Haiyan caused catastrophic damage and loss of life in the Philippines. The estimated death toll was around 6,300 people, and the damage was approximately $2.8 billion.

3. Hurricane Patricia (2015): Although it made landfall in Mexico, Hurricane Patricia's impact was significant, with maximum sustained winds of 200 mph (325 kph). Its central pressure was 872 hPa (25.75 inHg).

4. Typhoon Ida (1958): With peak winds of 321 km/h (200 mph), Typhoon Ida caused widespread destruction and flooding in Japan, resulting in 1,269 deaths and significant damage.

Note: These cyclones are considered some of the strongest to hit land, based on their central pressure and wind speed.

LARGEST CYCLONE BY DIAMETER

Typhoon Tip (1979): With a diameter of approximately 2,220 km (1,380 miles), Typhoon Tip is the largest tropical cyclone ever recorded. It reached a record-low sea-level pressure of 870 hPa and had peak winds of 190 mph (306 kph).

STRONGEST CYCLONES BY WIND SPEED.

1. Typhoon Nancy (1961): Had sustained winds of 213 mph (345 kph), making it one of the strongest tropical cyclones in history.

2. Hurricane Patricia (2015): Had sustained winds of 215 mph (346 kph) and gusts up to 260 mph (420 kph).

3. Typhoon Haiyan (2013): Had sustained winds of 195 mph (314 kph) and gusts up to 275 mph (443 kph).

--------

SUPERTYPHOON YOLANDA IS, BY FAR, ONE OF THE UNFORGETTABLE CYCLONES IN THE HISTORY. WITH THE GIVEN DATA, IT IS ALSO THE STRONGEST, MOST POWERFUL, AND MOST DESTRUCTIVE TYPHOONS TO EVER HIT THE PHILIPPINES. And as someone who experienced Yolanda, Rolly, and Odette, Supertyphoon Yolanda is still on a different level.
