ILALABAN.

To the 2025 Bar takers:

Tomorrow, you face the Bar. And along with it comes the pressure, the fear, and that nagging voice that says: โ€œBaka hindi ko kaya. Baka hindi sapat ang alam ko.โ€

But listen..

You are more than your doubts. You are the product of years of hard work, sacrifice, and countless battles you have already won. If you made it here, you already carry the strength to endure, to rise, and to pass.

Yes, the exam will be tough. But you are tougher.
Yes, the questions may overwhelm. But your courage is greater.

And beyond the exam lies an even greater calling. We live in times where corruption floods our institutions, where shortcuts and compromises threaten to erode the very foundations of law and governance. But you, the Bar takers, are the flood control. You are the next line of defense against the rising waters of dishonesty and abuse.

Passing the Bar is not merely about adding โ€œAtty.โ€ before your name. It is about choosing every day to be incorruptible, to uphold the law even when it is inconvenient, to fight for truth even when it is unpopular. It is about proving that in a world flooded with corruption and shortcuts, you choose the harder road of honor, principle, and perseverance.

So when you face the questions, remember:
You are not only answering for yourself, but for a country that longs for lawyers who will not sell their soul or integrity, who will not be swayed by money or power, and who will stand firm even when the tide is strong.

ILALABAN!

because justice is worth the fight.

ILALABAN!

because integrity is our strongest weapon.

ILALABAN!

because the nation cannot afford more floods of corruption, but needs walls of courage and principle.

Walk into the Bar with the determination PARA LUMABAN, hindi lang para sa titulong โ€œAtty.โ€ kundi para sa sambayanang Pilipino na nangangarap ng isang bayan kung saan ang batas ay tunay na nagtatanggol at nagliligtas.

The Bar is one step. The greater battle lies ahead.

A tax audit doesnโ€™t begin with numbers. It begins with authority. Without a valid LOA, thereโ€™s no case to begin with.

This is your first and strongest line of defense in any tax audit. If the LOA is defective or invalid, then the entire audit rests on shaky ground, and in fact, it may even collapse altogether.

Too often, taxpayers focus only on the findings or computations, without questioning whether the audit was validly initiated in the first place.

Making sure that the LOA is proper is not just a procedural step, as it can actually spare you from the hassle and inconvenience of going through the audit/assessment of your books and business transactions.

So before diving into reconciliations and explanations, ask: Was the audit validly authorized?

Women should never have to choose between their health and their livelihood.

That is the core principle behind the Special Leave Benefit under RA 9710 (Magna Carta of Women). This law grants up to two months of paid leave to women who undergo surgeries due to gynecological disorders such as myomectomy, hysterectomy, or mastectomy.

Unfortunately, many employees remain unaware of this entitlement. And while the law is clear, gaps in awareness and enforcement allow some employers to quietly benefit from this lack of knowledge, whether by failing to inform their workers or by treating the benefit as optional.

This silence comes at a cost. Women who are already facing physical and emotional strain are left vulnerable, forced to return to work too soon or to endure financial hardship when they should be focusing on healing.

That is why awareness is critical. Rights only protect if people know and assert them. Employers, for their part, must embrace compliance not as a burden but as a commitment to justice and respect in the workplace.

Harassment is not always loud. Sometimes itโ€™s a โ€œpsst,โ€ a stare that lingers too long, a โ€œjokeโ€ that cuts deep, or an unwanted DM that you never asked for.

For years, many brushed these off as normal, โ€œpart of the culture,โ€ โ€œjust harmless fun.โ€ But thereโ€™s nothing harmless about being made to feel unsafe in your own space.

Thatโ€™s why the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) was enacted. It recognizes these everyday acts as what they really are: gender-based harassment. It tells us that respect is not optional.

Let us stop trivializing harassment. Every โ€œsmallโ€ act adds up. And unless we start holding people accountable, silence only breeds more abuse.

Violence against women and children is not always visible. It can be physical, sexual, psychological, or economic, and it can happen anywhere, in homes, relationships, or even in places you wouldnt imagine it happening.

Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, exists to make sure that victims have clear legal protection and remedies.

The law provides that violence can be as follow:

1. Physical violence includes acts that cause bodily harm, or even just put someone in fear of harm.
2. Sexual violence covers r**e, harassment, forcing sexual activity, or treating someone as a sexual object.
3. Psychological violence is repeated insults, intimidation, stalking, public humiliation, or controlling the victimโ€™s movement.
4. Economic abuse is controlling finances, preventing work, destroying property, or denying financial support.

Who is protected?
1. Wives or former wives
2. Women with whom the abuser has sexual relations or children
3. Children under 18 or unable to care for themselves, including those in the care of the victim

Victims can seek legal protection through:
1. Protection Orders
2. Safe shelters via DSWD or accredited organizations
3. Criminal complaints, since violence against women and children is a public crime

On the other hand, consequences for abusers include imprisonment, fines, and mandatory counseling.

RA 9262 is a good law for women and their children. It has been a long time since women and children are being subjected to violence. It should be stopped now.

Violence should not and would not be tolerated. Huwag magtiis sa karahasan. Protect yourself and your children

In business, every peso counts, but not every expense automatically counts as a deduction. To legally reduce your taxable income, the BIR requires proof that your spending is real and connected to your trade or profession.

Under the law, you cannot deduct expenses from your gross income unless you have proper documentation.

This documentation includes official receipts, invoices, or other adequate records that show both the amount spent and the direct connection to your business operations.

Failing to substantiate your expenses can lead to disallowed deductions during audits, additional taxes, or even penalties.

Keep your receipts. Kung walang patunay, walang bawas sa buwis.
