A Texas state bill could charge transgender people with “gender identity fraud,” making it illegal to identify as trans on official documents and potentially leading to jail time.

The bill, which was filed last week by Republican state Rep. Tom Oliverson, would make it a state jail felony if a person “knowingly makes a false or misleading verbal or written statement” by identifying their s*x assigned at birth incorrectly to a governmental entity or to their employer. State jail felonies in Texas are punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

However, the bill is among the first of its kind nationally and is an example of how legislation targeting trans people has become more clear in its intent and more extreme in recent years, particularly in Texas.

Why it Happened?

…"Night and day I pondered until I saw the connection between the justice of God and the statement,'The righteous shall live by his faith?

Then I grasped that the justice of God is that righteousness by which through grace and sheer mercy God justifies us through faith. Thereupon I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into Paradise." Thus Martin Luther arrived at salvation through faith alone; his quest for spiritual certainty had been solved.

👉 Faith is not an achievement; it is a gift which comes to man through the hearing and the study of the Word. Luther had studied the Bible for his lectures, and had come to see the solution to his spiritual problems.

👉 Faith justifies man before God, and it is part of that faith to trust God, to believe that he is, through Christ, constantly striving to save mankind.

This insight was to be the motivating force of Luther's life and work. All else was but a commentary upon it. It was after he had reached this central conclusion that Luther encountered the Indulgence of 1517. Here was an action directly opposed to his new-found certainty and conviction, a substitution of works for faith.

Already, prior to 1517, Luther had begun to preach against the growing number of indulgences which were being sold throughout Germany.
