The Fighting Maroons pushed undefeated Tsinghua University to the limit but came up just short, 85-81, in the AUBL Quarterfinals.

Leading the way for UP were Rey Remogat(19 points, 5 assists), Veejay Pre (18 points, 12 rebounds), and Dieonte Miles (10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks), as the Maroons battled until the final buzzer.

A memorable international campaign comes to a close, with plenty of positives to build on heading into the UAAP season.

Despite the loss, the Fighting Maroons showed their trademark grit by dominating the boards, 45-33, including 13 offensive rebounds, but struggled to convert those extra possessions as they shot just 20-of-63 (31.7%) from the field and 4-of-25 (16%) from beyond the arc.

The Maroons won the rebounding battle and were excellent from the free throw line (16/19), but Korea University's efficient ball movement (19 assists) and hot shooting from deep (10 threes) proved to be the difference.

Plenty of lessons to take from this one as UP looks to bounce back in its next outing in the knockout Quarterfinal Round.

The Fighting Maroons open their 2026 Asian University Basketball League campaign with a convincing 76-63 victory over Hakuoh University to improve to 1-0 in Group B.

Leading the way was Player of the Game Francis Veejay Pre, who put together a dominant double-double and controlled the paint from start to finish:

Pre's relentless work on the glass and efficient scoring set the tone as UP imposed its size and physicality throughout the game.

The challenge only gets tougher from here. Next up for the Fighting Maroons is Korea University, a familiar foe from last year's World University Basketball Series (WUBS). UP will have an opportunity to avenge last year's defeat as the Maroons continue their Group B campaign.

One game down. One statement made. Now it's on to Korea University.
