ROADWISE 2025 Concludes with Groundbreaking Innovations and Solutions for Safer Roads
We wrapped up ROADWISE: The Road Safe Systems Challenge — an open call for students and professionals to rethink road safety through the Safe Systems Approach:
🔍 Safer Roads. Safer Vehicles. Safer People. Safer Speeds. Better Crash Response.
CONGRATULATIONS to our winners! 🙌
🏆 Champion – BraveResponse Solutions
AutoResQ: A Tri-Axis Collision Detection System integrated with Convolutional Neural Network–based Driver Monitoring for Automated Emergency Response.
🥈 1st Runner-Up – The Traffic Solvers
You’re Road: A comprehensive reimagining of Governor Lim Avenue in Zamboanga City through context-sensitive design and human-centered planning.
🥉 2nd Runner-Up – DEM Innovations LTD
Lulubog-Lilitaw: A proposal for automated, illuminated pedestrian bollards designed to enhance safety and enable the accident detection system at Monumento LRT.
🚧 What's Next? Paving the Way Forward
The ROADWISE 2025 journey doesn't end here. We’re taking these winning ideas beyond the competition and into real-world application:
- Collaborative Consultation with LGUs
Initial dialogues will be held with local government units (LGUs) and relevant agencies to assess feasibility, align with local plans, and explore pilot implementations of selected innovations in high-risk areas.
- Codevelopment and Technical Refinement
Promising entries will undergo further co-development with tech experts, transport engineers, urban planners, and emergency response stakeholders to refine hardware/software integration and system calibration.
- Open Sourcing of Tools and Frameworks
In the spirit of inclusive innovation, components of these projects—such as detection algorithms, system architecture, and urban design templates—will be made open source, enabling continuous improvement and adaptation by other cities, schools, and stakeholders.
🤝 The RoadWise collaboration is brought to us by SafeTravelPH, Palafox Associates, UP Institute of Civil Engineering, and UP Data Science Society.
