As the NPA anniversary approaches, let us be clear: this is not a day for celebration or tribute. It is a solemn reminder of the pain our nation has endured for decades.

The insurgency has left deep and lasting scars—thousands of lives lost, including innocent civilians, soldiers, and even children caught in the crossfire. Families have been torn apart. Entire communities have lived under fear and uncertainty. Opportunities for growth, education, and progress have been stifled by violence and extortion.

Behind every so-called “anniversary” are real stories of suffering—farmers forced to give what little they have, workers intimidated into silence, schools disrupted, and young dreams cut short. These are not abstract consequences; they are lived realities for many Filipinos.

No ideology or cause can ever justify the loss of innocent lives. We must not romanticize armed struggle when it continues to harm the very people it claims to defend.

What our country needs is not more conflict, but lasting peace. Not division, but unity. Not fear, but hope grounded in real solutions that uplift communities and protect human dignity.

Let us honor the victims—not with silence, but with resolve. Let us choose a future where no Filipino has to live in fear.

This is not something to celebrate. It is something we must never forget.

Sa tuwing may protesta, tila nawawala ang diwa ng kapayapaan. Ang dapat sana’y pagkakataong marinig ang tinig ng bayan ay nauuwi sa sigawan, tensyon, at kaguluhan—mga eksenang sumasalungat sa tunay na layunin ng demokrasya. Nawa’y maibalik natin ang respeto, kaayusan, at makahulugang pag-uusap sa bawat pag-aaklas.
