MILESTONES
Someone might say "I don't get it" on why parents post a monthly picture of their newborn for a year. Is it really just to flex the cuteness of their baby?
It's hard to get unless you become a parent yourself. These photo sessions which take place in the first year of the baby's life are called a "milestone photo" and for a good reason.
A milestone is defined as a stone set up beside a road to mark the distance in miles to a particular place. So why is a baby turning a month older such an achievement?
📍It can be such a difficult journey. From the moment the mother enters the operating room to deliver the baby, there is a high risk battle going on with death. Things can go wrong easy and there are many cases where only one makes out alive or worse, none do!
📍After leaving the hospital, the battle is not over! There are sicknesses, accidents and a lot of bad things out there and the baby is still yet so fragile. There's even a thing called SIDS or Sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS) where there is a sudden and unexplained death of a baby younger than 1 year old.
That's why those sleepless nights of parents are also anxious nights because aside from changing diapers, comforting, feeding and burping, they are constantly checking on if the baby is still breathing. There's also some sort of paranoia coming in whenever something is off with the baby even if most of it is perfectly normal.
📍Thankfully, when these babies do grow, they become a lot more tougher and less vulnerable. So seeing them reach another month is something we look forward to.
For us parents, every milestone post is a big sigh of relief. So please do allow us to share this joy to everybody. And whenever we see a milestone photo, may we be thankful 🙌🏼
