The Rigidness Of What "Church" Has Become
I believe that unfortunately "church" has become an idol for many in the body of Christ. That as long as one goes to church every Sunday, worships & listens to a message, everything is good and they are on track. Yet easily they could be struggling inside or on the outside more than ever.
That's because if God is not truly first in a person's life every day outside of church, then church just becomes a temporary place to feel good (or bad, depending on the person). Yes, gathering w other Christians & worshipping God is a huge part to the Christian life (Hebrews 10:25), but many have made it into something God never destined it to be.
I don't believe God ever destined for us to be so rigid in our timelines. Church every Sunday at 10am, prayer meeting every second wednesday at 8pm & men's dinner every Tuesday night at 7pm. I just don't see this in the Bible. I think God is bringing us back to Acts 2 church.
"They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." - Acts 2:42
The scriptures in Acts actually point to more of a free, Holy Spirit led day to day gathering rather than planned church services.
"And all the believers were together and had all things in common; and they would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need. (do we see this often 🤔?)
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved." - Acts 2:44-47"
EVERY DAY PEOPLE WERE GETTING SAVED. Why wouldn't we follow this blueprint?
Don't get me wrong, there's a time for planned meeting and things like that. But we have to make sure our plans aren't getting in the way of Holy Spirit's. But I think we've taken it way too far & I'll tell you why.
I believe The Holy Spirit is so much freer than our times and dates.
Look at the characteristics of the Holy Spirit:
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; - John 14:16 - helper could also be seen as "guide".
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. - John 16:13
We need to be completely led by the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is speaking all of the time and we must be in step with what He is doing more now than ever. Jesus is coming soon. We don't have time for plans that are not of His.
"For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him." - Romans 8:5-9
Now I want you to think about these verses, particularly, "but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit (they focus on)." Rather than the flesh, and what is one of the fruits of the flesh ... Idolatry! As seen in Galatians 5:19-21. If anything takes the place of God in our lives, it has become an idol, which means your mind is set on the flesh which produces death (Romans 8:6), the opposite of the life giving Spirit. If church becomes or has become an idol in your life, that means you are a slave to it, it's timelines, it's plans, the flesh.. what it has become in your mind before God.
Now please don't think that I'm saying church is bad, not at all. It's key to walking in the best God has for you but it also doesn't have to be traditional church in a building. It could be weekly connect groups, it could be zoom meetings, it could be lunches.
But I'll say this: I believe we are on the precipice of the greatest revival this world has ever seen. The revival that comes before the end, oh and my friends, how I believe Jesus has saved the best for last. And I believe one of the unique things that will mark this revival is that it will flow outside of the church. It will be discipleship in homes. It will take over the streets. It will erupt into mass salvations and healings in tent meetings. It will be the main talk of many people. But the 4 church walls that are man made won't be able to contain it. And My friend, I don't believe God was ever meant to be supposedly contained in a traditional church with 4 walls in the first place.
