AITA for talking in my natural accent?

I (31M) am from the UK but moved to America 8 years ago. I have fallen into the habit of typing/writing in American English but still have a British accent. I can manage a pretty decent American accent if I want to blend in and not seem weird, but I prefer not to. My new coworker thinks my accent is weird. She says it makes me sound pretentious and uppity. She knows that I can speak in an American accent and yesterday she asked me to speak American all the time. I said no because I don’t like to. She thinks I’m purposely trying to act like I’m better than the rest of them. Am I the a__hole?

AITA for not letting a stranger sleep in my house?

TL;DR: My mother gave a friend of hers (who I’ve never met or spoken to) permission to come sleep at my house without first notifying me.

I’m an adult (29) and I live in western PA. My mother lives in NJ, so about 5.5-6 hours from me.

My mother texted me in the middle of the night and told me that her friend left her boyfriend, and she volunteered for me to host this person. The girl is driving from Wisconsin to Philadelphia, on the opposite side of the state from me.

Now, I don’t know this girl. She’s supposedly around my age, my mom met her at a music festival, and she lives in Wisconsin. I have never met her, I have never spoken to her, and I’ve only ever seen her replying to my mom’s Facebook posts.

I told my mom I’m not comfortable having a stranger in my house. She immediately got upset with me. She kept explaining that the girl is my age, and I’d really like her, and she’s really cool...on and on. I told her I’m still not comfortable with this person in my house, and she had no right...

Aita for cutting off mil after she claimed our kids on her taxes?

A few years ago, my wife (26 F) and I (27 M), were getting ready to move back home after my last duty station in the Marine Corps. We had 2 children at the time and being that I was only an E-3, my pay wasn’t great and we relied heavily on income tax every year to catch up with bills or pay debts or to splurge a little on the kids if we had anything left over.

Well as fate would have it, my contact was extended by about 3 months longer than expected so to avoid paying extra in rent, I sent my family back home early to stay with my Monster-in-law. They were there for a little over 3 months total before I came home and we found a more permanent residence.

Fast forward about 2 months to January, when we try to file our taxes and the agent keeps informing us that we can’t claim our kids because they’re already being claimed by someone else. We called the IRS and every other agency and family member or family friend we could think of that could have possibly done this and nobody knew who could...

AITA for letting my dad know I’m not part of my mom and stepdad’s “family”?

I (f16) live the majority of the time with my dad. I see my mom, stepdad, and half-siblings (f6) and (m4) 2-3 times a week. I have always gotten the vibe my stepdad didn't like me because I'm not his biological kid but now I'm sure of it.

For a few weeks now my mom and stepdad have been talking about a vacation they want to do labor day weekend. They have done so around me multiple times. A few nights ago I was visiting them and started asking questions about the vacation. When my mom informed me I can't go. AITA for making my son share his Nintendo Switch with my daughter?

Throwaway account because my son frequents Reddit.

This last Christmas, my in-laws gave each of my kids (14M and 11F) a $400 budget for their gifts. My son chose a Nintendo Switch with a game, and my daughter chose an iPad Mini. My husband and I don't make much money, so these presents were a really big deal.

Just over two weeks ago, my daughter broke her iPad Mini because my son wouldn't stop teasing her about a YouTuber she likes to watch, and she threw it in frustration. I told my son he needs to stop antagonizing his sister about the things she likes, and he would have to share his Nintendo Switch with her until we can get the iPad fixed.. He argued with me pretty rudely about it, so I ended up punishing him by making him give his Switch entirely to my daughter for two straight weeks, as we cannot afford to get the iPad fixed until my husband gets paid. My son reluctantly agreed, and everything was fine until yesterday when he finally got his Switch back.

AITAH for telling my family to F off after brother threatened my husband in-front of our 7 yo?

So there’s obviously a lot more nuances than what I can possibly share in a single post, but here it goes:

I (37F)have a much younger brother (24M) whom is now a grown man. He’s about 6ft and VERY muscular. My husband (44M) is old enough to be his dad, is 5”5 and 150 lbs. We’ve also gotten along just fine. When my brother was little we’d even take him places like he was our son.

We all went to a ballgame this weekend (multiple family members). It was HOT outside! We were all sweating. My husband made what he thought was a joke that my brother looked like he was lactating due to all his sweat. That’s when my brother went off the deep end. Right in-front of our son he stands up tells him to s**u and that he should slap him/kick his ass. Then made a gesture like he was going to punch him. Son saw it all.

AITA for not leaving my bed when a drunk female came into my room?

I (20M) live with 2 of my male friends in a pretty nice apartment. They like to have party’s but I am not really a party guy. I usually work late so I am tired when I get home so the 2 of them tell me when they are going to have a party and I find something else to do, usually go to a movie or something. Yesterday I had a really bad day at work and throughout the day it slipped my mind that they where having a party. When I got home I was annoyed but knew it was my fault for forgetting. They convinced me to come inside and have a drink and afterwards I felt better. I still wanted to go to bed so I just told them to maybe keep it down a little and they said okay. AITA for missing my daughters birthday weekend?

Some background:
I have 2 daughters from my previous marriage, they are 8 and 11. I love them but I would say my relationship with them is kind of rocky. I try my best to visit or make phone calls but it hardly ever happens due to busy schedules. Naturally, I have a better relationship/connection with my son (3) in my current marriage - I obviously would never tell them that.

My son and daughter have birthdays that happen to be 2 days apart. The plan was to celebrate my sons birthday and then spend the weekend with my daughters. It was exciting for all of us because I haven’t seen them since last summer

The weekend comes around but I realized I couldn’t make it. We had just thrown a big party for my son and I was extremely exhausted.

My wife said it was an a__hole move. My ex wife is mad and told me the girls are upset and disappointed. I’m the only one who thinks it was a valid excuse.

AITA for refusing to bake an insulting cake for a customer?

My family owns a bakery and I currently work there as a manager. The other day a man came in with I'm assuming his 20 something year old daughter and wanted to order a cake shaped like a coffin with "Happy Birthday Isabel" I questioned the coffin and he explained it was his wife's 50th birthday and since she was getting "old" he wanted to give her a coffin cake and dead roses. That seemed awful, like extremely abusive to me, and I guess I made a face. He said it was fine because she had a sense of humor and then was like come on it's not like it's all I'm getting her. It's a 50th birthday, do you know how much money I've spent?

I said I didn't feel comfortable doing that. It seems extremely cruel and I would be gutted if a partner did it to me. He asked if I was seriously judging his relationship over a prank and said I'm probably single anyway. AITA for refusing to acknowledge my father at my wedding and in my life in general?

For context, when I (M, 34) was 13, he completely ruined our family, he was having an affair with a 25 year old and got her pregnant, he just abandoned me and my sister for his new family.

I hate my stepmother because she’s always rubbed it in our faces, and he did nothing about it, in the end when I was 17 I went no contact on him, my sister still spoke to him occasionally but every so often.

My mother remarried when I 17, and my stepfather is a good man, he’s always treated me and my sister like we were his own children.

I recently got married to my long term partner, who is the mother of my two children (both 9) and my bio dad has only met them once and that was only because my contacted him, I never spoke to him once during the meeting, even though he apologised and he kept apologising thinking that what he did was okay.
