With courage, vigor, and transparency, voices rise over mountains and cross seas in quest and thirst for truth. As a cornerstone of democracy, the freedom of the press upholds independence amidst chains of political power and cruelty.
Today, ๐๐๐ด๐๐๐ ๐ฏ๐ฌ, the Philippines commemorates the freedom of the Press and marks the 175th birth anniversary of Marcelo H. del Pilarโ also known by his nom de plume, Plรกridel, who kept the fire burning in the hearts of his countrymen during the Spanish colonial rule. With ink and quill, his writings exposed the abuses of friars, fueling a spark of revolutions from oppressed Filipinos.
The enduring legacy of Marcelo H. del Pilar runs deep within the lifeblood of todayโs Filipino journalists. With voices joined in a unison of protecting democracy, they continue to ceaselessly defend the silent and the silencedโ evoking a solemn reflection of the sacrifices made in pursuit of a peaceful and free nation. In this age where spreading fake news is easier than speaking what is real, may we withstand the challenges brought by the modern world and persist to light the torch towards verity.
From the student-journalists and moderators of The Burning Bush Organization, we pay tribute to the writers and guardians of truth who paved the way before us.
