Venue: Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), Occidental Mindoro
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) โ Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) formally conducted a meaningful certificate awarding ceremony, honoring student interns from Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) โ Sablayan Campus for successfully completing their mandatory practical training program. This milestone stands as a testament to the strong, productive, and longstanding partnership between BuCor and OMSC, both dedicated to molding competent, ethical, and work-ready future professionals in the fields of criminology and security management.
A total of 96 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Management (BSISM) programs were formally conferred their Certificates of Completion after finishing the required 200-hour internship at SPPF. Throughout their training period, the interns gained invaluable hands-on exposure in security operations, safety enforcement, facility management and administration, as well as familiarity with standard operational protocols and institutional guidelines. They also honed essential professional skills, work ethics, and core values that perfectly complemented their academic coursework and aligned with their future career paths in public service and security industries.
The program commenced with opening remarks delivered by Correction Senior Officer 3 (CSO3) Lorelie G. Silva, represented during the event by Correction Officer 1 (CO1) Cynthia Aguilar. In her message, she expressed BuCorโs sincere appreciation to OMSC for trusting the institution as a partner in education and skills development. She commended the interns for their consistent discipline, active participation, and exemplary conduct throughout the training period, noting that their performance reflected their commitment to learning and brought pride both to their college and to the field of criminal justice education. She emphasized that BuCor remains fully committed to opening its facilities and resources to students, as part of its mandate to support community development and capacity-building initiatives.
Delivering the inspirational message were Correction Senior Superintendent (CSSUPT) Roger O. Boncales, Superintendent of Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, and Correction Inspector (CSINP) Reymund DL Peneyra, Deputy for Administration of SPPF. In their joint message, they highlighted the vital importance of bridging theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom with actual, real-world practice. They reminded the students that their time at BuCor was more than just a requirementโit was an opportunity to understand the realities, responsibilities, and noble purpose of the profession they chose. They encouraged the interns to always uphold the core values of integrity, accountability, respect, and public service as they advance in their careers, stressing that every lesson, interaction, and experience gained during the internship would serve as a strong foundation for their future success and credibility as professionals.
Words of encouragement and guidance were shared by Dr. Mary ann Salazar- Condes of OMSC โ Sablayan Campus. She acknowledged the hard work, patience, adaptability, and resilience demonstrated by the students as they adjusted to the work environment and performed their assigned duties with dedication. She assured the interns that the practical skills, insights, and good work habits they acquired during the program would be their greatest assets as they transition from students to future professionals. She further reminded them to carry with them the lessons learned and values instilled during their training, and to always strive for excellence and service in every endeavor they pursue.
To formally close the activity, Sir Julius Cesar P. Villaflores, MSCJ, BSISM Program Chair of OMSC โ Sablayan Campus, extended the institutionโs deepest gratitude to BuCor and the entire SPPF management for their unwavering support, warm accommodation, and for providing a safe, conducive, and meaningful venue for practical learning. He emphasized that collaborative programs such as this play a crucial role in enriching the quality of education, as they equip students not only with technical skills but also with the right values, exposure, and work experience needed to thrive in their chosen fields. He reaffirmed OMSCโs commitment to strengthening and sustaining this partnership, with the shared goal of producing graduates who are skilled, responsible, ethical, and service-oriented.
