When great fish swallowed Jonah, he prayed to the Lord his God from inside. He was really in great trouble. Imagine yourself drowning into the ocean depths, sinking to the heart of the sea, and looking like you're in the world of the dead. The wild and stormy waves buried you. Only waters and seaweeds wrapped you. It seemed you were locked out of life and imprisoned in the land of the dead. Jonah himself experienced this terrifying event. In other words, death was very near for Jonah. Though Jonah runs away from God and disobeys Him, he still has the heart to ask God for forgiveness for what he did. Because Jonah still wanted to witness God's presence in his life. God snatched him from the jaws of death by answering his earnest prayers. Jonah even said, "When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the Lord. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple." ( Jonah 2:7) Like Jonah, who was in his desperate situation, he turned to God in prayer. God answered him and saved him from the great fish’s belly. Jonah’s God is our God, too. If you are already on the brink of hopelessness and desperation, turn your thoughts once more to the Lord. He is always ready to accept and forgive, as you are. Your honest heart will bring God's mercies. God sees your efforts and sacrifices. Go to Him, he loves you more than you imagined. Pray earnestly. He hears you.
