The 1987 Philippine Constitution is replete with provisions in support to the realization of quality education. In line manner, the Medium-Term Development Plan highlights the improvement of quality of life through the optimization of resources. With this, the Department of Education is mobilized to use all its resources to realize its mandate, that is, to produce individuals who are ready for the role of citizenship, nation building, and global competitiveness.
The Brigada Eskwela (BE), the national maintenance week initiative, is a flagship program of the Department of Education which aims to optimize the readiness of schools for the opening of classes. It recognizes the strong partnership with stakeholders in making schools safe, secured, and conducive for learning in the opening of classes. The SDO โ City of San Fernando, La Union remained to be committed in the pursuit of quality education. With this, Lingsat Integrated School is one of the biggest schools in the SDO which remained supportive in the attainment of the goals of the BE Program.
The assumption of Dr. Melinda S. Verzosa of LIS is a fresh breath of fresh air as she highlighted in her turnover ceremony that she will put her best foot forward in further transforming the school into greater heights. As early as she assumed Office, she already started aggressive housekeeping. She is very grateful for the support accorded to her by all stakeholders.
With her strong desire to advance quality and liberating education, she started with strong BE activities prior to the kick-off ceremony. Dr. Verzosa recognizes strategic planning as the cornerstone of all Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs); hence, she is armed with all the documents to prove this claim.
Relatedly, Maโam Mel, as fondly called at work, recognizes camaraderie and harmonious relationships as crucial in school productivity. Hence, she initiated various team building activities to refresh and recharge all the workforce of the school. Indeed, this initiative fueled the passion and commitment of teachers and staff for their commendable contributions in the successful implementation of the BE and Oplan Balik Eskwela Program.
Moreover, one of the notable practices of the schoolโs BE is its strong partnership with stakeholders. Dr. Verzosa was able to mobilize participation of various stakeholders, both from the government and non-government sectors. Indeed, this feat is worthy of emulation.
However, with all the good intentions of the school administration, it also faced with challenges and limitations. The unconducive weather is a force to contend with. Since the school is situated along the highway, traffic congestion is a very alarming concern.
With this road traffic challenge, Maโam Mel forged partnership with the Barangay such that Barangay Police members were deployed to secure all learners and school goers.
As an adage states, the journey to a thousand step starts with the first one, Maโam Mel did start the very first step in the learnersโ overall well-being in particular, and quality education in general. Indeed, all these initiatives are undertaken for the glory of God.
