Bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng ika-128 Araw ng Kalayaan, matagumpay na isinagawa ng Lokal na Pamahalaan ng San Miguel sa pamumuno ni Mayor Antonio T. Teves, sa pamamagitan ng MHRMO sa pangunguna ni Bb. Rhea Imelda Morales, ang “Huling Parangal sa Watawat ng Pilipinas: Flag Retirement Ceremony” noong Hunyo 11, 2026.

Alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 8491 o Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, marangal na binigyang-pugay ang mga luma at kupas na watawat sa pamamagitan ng isang solemneng seremonya ng pagtupok at paglilibing ng mga abo.

Dinaluhan ito ng mga kawani ng LGU, Sangguniang Bayan Members, Heads of Offices, mga paaralan, at mga unipormadong ahensya bilang pagpapakita ng pagkakaisa at pagmamahal sa bayan.

​Alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 8491 (Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines), ang mga luma, kupas, at gulanit na watawat ay hindi dapat basta itinatapon. Sa halip, ito ay marangal at solemning sinusunog upang mapanatili ang paggalang sa pambansang sagisag ng ating kalayaan.

​✨ 𝑴𝒈𝒂 𝑻𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒌 𝒏𝒂 𝑩𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒈𝒊 𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒏:

• ​Pagkakaisa ng Komunidad: Dinaluhan ang seremonya ng mga kawani ng LGU, Sangguniang Bayan Members, mga Heads of Offices, akademya, at mga unipormadong ahensya tulad ng PNP, BFP, Philippine Army, kasama ang BSP at GSP.

• ​Makabuluhang Mensahe: Nagbigay ng paalala si Vice Mayor Noel S. Morales ukol sa sakripisyo at pagkakaisa na sinasagisag ng watawat. Ipinaliwanag naman ni Mr. Edgar Soriao ang kahalagahan ng seremonya, habang binigkas ng isang batang scout ang tulang “Ang Aking Bandila” ni Cirio H. Panganiban.

• ​Ang Pagtupok at Paglilibing: Sa makasaysayang papel ni Hon. Kag. Delia Soriao bilang Inang Bayan, marangal na inilaan ang mga lumang watawat sa sagradong apoy matapos ang Panunumpa sa Watawat. Ang pag-gagatong ay sinabayan ng awit ni Ma'am Jess. Ang mga abo ay maingat na inilagay sa urna at mapitagang inilibing sa isang lugar na hindi matatapakan ng sinuman.

Sa makasaysayang papel ni Hon. Kag. Delia Soriao bilang Inang Bayan, madamdaming tinanggap at inilaan ang mga lumang watawat sa sagradong apoy matapos ang pagbigkas ng Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas ng mga scout. Ang bawat pagtupok ay sinabayan ng isang madamdaming awit ng pamamaalam mula kay Bb. Jessica Taule.

​Katulad ng tradisyon sa pagpaparangal sa isang pumanaw na bayani, ang mga natitirang abo ng watawat ay maingat na hinalaw, inilagay sa isang urna, at mapitagang inilibing sa isang pribadong lugar kung saan hindi ito matatapakan ng sinuman.

​Sa pamamagitan ng gawaing ito, muling pinagtibay ng LGU San Miguel ang kanyang pangako sa pagsusulong ng nasyonalismo at pagmamahal sa bayan.

Surrounded by nature's beauty, guests experienced the warmth and hospitality of San Miguel through a carefully curated riverside dining experience featuring local cuisine, cultural presentations, and meaningful conversations among tourism stakeholders and partners.

The event went beyond dinner, showcasing San Miguel's vision of promoting sustainable tourism while celebrating its rich culture, vibrant community, and emerging tourism destinations. The gathering served as a symbol of unity, collaboration, and the municipality's commitment to creating authentic and unforgettable tourism experiences.

The recently concluded “SIRAM PAGKAON: Bikolnon Flavorful Foods of Bicol – Catanduanes Leg” became a truly memorable experience as the validators and guests were warmly welcomed by the people of San Miguel at the breathtaking Tagbak River in Barangay Progreso.

As part of the activity, the Local Government Unit of San Miguel proudly hosted the “Dinner by the River Experience” where guests enjoyed the relaxing ambiance of Tagbak River, the warm hospitality of the locals, cultural presentations, and the rich flavors of San Miguel, Catanduanes delicacies proudly prepared by the community.

The event showcased not only the culinary treasures of San Miguel but also the unity, creativity, and dedication of the San Miguelnons in promoting local tourism and culture. The validators expressed their appreciation for the natural beauty of the river, the peaceful atmosphere, and the unforgettable dining experience by the water.

Following the successful validation and assessment, the activity was also highlighted by the Induction of Officers of TREGA, symbolizing strengthened collaboration and commitment in advancing tourism development in the Bicol Region and Catanduanes.

The Municipal Government of San Miguel extends its heartfelt gratitude to TReGA, the DOT Region V Family, the Provincial Tourism Office of Catanduanes headed by Ms. Carmel Garcia, and to all the validators and guests for their support and appreciation of our local destination and culture.

Special thanks are also extended to Mayor Antonio Teves, the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Hon. Noel S. Morales and all its members, barangay officials, partner agencies, performers, volunteers, and the local community whose collective efforts made the event successful.
