It was a normal Sunday. As soon as I opened my eyes, I thanked God. I also prayed that we be spared from any misfortune and that He protect all our loved ones.
Together with my spouse, we went to attend to our business. As part of our routine, we took care of everything that needed to be done. After that, we stopped by the home of Sec. Katrina C. Ponce-Enrile before heading back.
While driving along C6 in Taguig, right in front of the stoplight, I noticed a cellphone that had fallen from a man who was rushing across the street. No one else saw it, so I quickly got out and picked it up.
A few moments later, a young man on a motorcycle approached and claimed that the phone was his. But I had clearly seen who dropped it, and it wasn’t him. So I asked, “What’s the profile picture? What’s on the lock screen?” He immediately backed off and admitted it wasn’t his.
Since the real owner was already out of sight, we decided to wait for a call. A few minutes later, a woman called it turned out she was the wife of the phone’s owner. At first, she thought her husband was seeing another woman, but once she realized it had just been lost, she laughed in relief and thanked us.
Shortly after, the real owner called using a co-worker’s number. He was clearly nervous. He said he had been rushing to withdraw his salary, which he needed for his family. So we arranged for the phone to be delivered to him via a courier service.
While heading home, it suddenly hit us we hadn’t eaten yet. So we stopped by Mang Inasal.
In front of us was a family: a couple with four small children. They had only ordered one chicken meal with unlimited rice. The kids were eating just rice with soup, but they were all smiling, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.
Watching them, I couldn’t hold back. I called the waiter and quietly said, “Please send them two more chicken meals with unli rice and drinks.” I also requested not to mention who it came from.
As we were about to leave, we looked back at the family. Their joy had grown even brighter. The father noticed us and gave a heartfelt gesture of thanks. At that moment, I couldn’t help but shed tears.
In silence, I prayed, “Thank You, Lord, for allowing us to be an instrument of help.”
Sometimes, the most ordinary days those we least expect become the most meaningful.
Because it is in every small act of kindness, in every quiet compassion, in every selfless gesture, that we truly become vessels of grace.
It brought back memories of a time when my spouse and I were at our lowest lost, uncertain, and filled with fear. But in the middle of that storm, a friend came into our lives.
She quietly extended her hand not to take over, but to gently guide us with patience and care.
She never gave up on us. And because of her kindness, the light returned, and we found our way again.
That friend is Sec. Katrina Ponce Enrile a leader with a heart, and above all, a friend who supports in quiet, steadfast ways.
