SUBIC BAY FREEPORT โ The calm waters of Subic Bay came alive last August 8โ10, 2025, as Fishโn Town, in partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), successfully staged the first-ever Subic Bay Shore Fishing Tournament at the San Bernardino Fishing Site.
The three-day event drew a strong turnout of local and visiting anglers, reflecting the growing popularity of recreational fishing in the region. While organizers did not release an official headcount, Fishโn Town TV producer Mye Acuรฑa said the response โfar exceeded expectationsโa true testament to the strength and passion of our fishing community.โ
SBMA Chairman Eduardo Aliรฑo lauded the event as a milestone for Subic Bayโs tourism and environmental initiatives. โWe are working to establish Subic Bay as the fishing capital of Northern Philippines, anchored on sustainable practices that protect our marine resources,โ Aliรฑo said.
The tournament was not just about competitionโit championed eco-friendly angling, encouraging catch-and-release methods, proper fish handling, and the use of sustainable gear.
Corporate support played a big role in the eventโs success, with major sponsors including Smart Communications, Jollibee, Columbia Sportswear, Pagcor, The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Cherrylume, Urban Deli, Royal Duty Free, and Maple.
As the final lines were cast and the winners crowned, both organizers and participants expressed optimism that the Subic Bay Shore Fishing Tournament will become a yearly tradition, helping boost eco-tourism and local economic activity in Zambales.
