NOTHING BUT THE CROSS

Galatians 6:14 (NKJV)
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

Theme: Kapag si Cristo ang naging kaluwalhatian natin,
nawawala ang kapit ng mundo sa atin.

Subtitle: Glorying in Christ, dying to the world, living for His glory.

INTRODUCTION
Maraming bagay ang ipinagmamalaki ng mga tao.

Some boast about their accomplishments.
May ipinagmamalaki dahil sa kanilang mga achievements.

Some boast about their possessions.
May ipinagmamalaki dahil sa kanilang mga ari-arian.

Some boast about their education.
May ipinagmamalaki dahil sa kanilang pinag-aralan.

Some boast about their position.
May ipinagmamalaki dahil sa kanilang posisyon.

Some boast about their family.
May ipinagmamalaki dahil sa kanilang pamilya.
At minsan, maging ang ministry ay puwedeng maging dahilan ng pagmamalaki.

Pero ibang perspective ang ibinigay ni Paul:
“God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Parang sinasabi ni Paul:
“Kung may ipagmamalaki man ako, wala nang iba kundi ang krus ni Cristo.”

Maraming bagay si Paul na maaari niyang gamitin para sa kanyang personal glory.
- Mayroon siyang religious credentials.
- Mayroon siyang education.
- Mayroon siyang Jewish heritage.
- Mayroon siyang zeal.
- Mayroon siyang accomplishments.

Pero nang makilala niya si Cristo, nagbago ang definition niya ng glory.
- Ang kanyang glory ay lumipat mula sa sarili patungo kay Cristo.
- Ang kanyang identity ay lumipat mula sa religion patungo sa redemption.
- Ang kanyang affection ay lumipat mula sa mundo patungo sa krus.

THE QUESTION
Ano ang pinakamalaking bagay na ipinagmamalaki mo sa buhay?

Simple ang sagot ni Paul:
NOTHING BUT THE CROSS

I. GLORIFICATION OF THE BELIEVER
Galatians 6:14 — “boast”

Sabi ni Paul:
“I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ang salitang “boast” ay mula sa Greek word na kauchaomai, na nangangahulugang to glory, to boast, to rejoice, or to take pride in something.

Ang ultimate confidence ni Paul ay hindi na nakabase sa kanyang sarili.
Ang kanyang glory ay nasa Christ and His cross.
Puwede niyang ipagmalaki ang kanyang education.
Puwede niyang ipagmalaki ang kanyang religious achievements.
Puwede niyang ipagmalaki ang kanyang heritage.
Pero pinili niyang ipagmalaki si Cristo.

THE GOSPEL DESTROYS HUMAN BOASTING

Ang salvation natin ay hindi trophy na pinanalunan natin.
Gift ito ng Diyos.

Ang righteousness natin ay hindi achievement natin.
Provision ito ni Cristo.

Ang hope natin ay hindi nakabase sa ginawa natin.
Ang hope natin ay nakabase sa ginawa ni Cristo.

Jeremiah 9:24 says:
“But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me…”

At sinabi sa 1 Corinthians 1:31:
“He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.”

APPLICATION
Ano ang nagpaparamdam sa iyo na valuable ka?
Ano ang nagpaparamdam sa iyo na important ka?
Ano ang gusto mong mapansin ng ibang tao tungkol sa iyo?

Saan nakabase ang identity mo?
Kung ang pinakamalaking glory natin ay nasa ibang bagay kaysa kay Cristo, tinatawag tayo ng krus pabalik sa Kanya.

Nothing but the cross.

II. CRUCIFIXION OF THE BELIEVER
Galatians 6:14 — “crucified”
Nagpatuloy si Paul:
“by whom the world has been crucified to me…”

Ang salitang “crucified” ay mula sa Greek word na stauroō, na nangangahulugang to crucify or to put to death by crucifixion.
Ang cross ay hindi lamang isang bagay na hinahangaan natin.

THE CROSS CHANGES US.

Sabi sa Galatians 2:20:
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…”

Ang Christian life ay hindi simpleng pagdaragdag kay Jesus sa dati nating buhay.
Christ gives us a new life.

Binabago ng cross ang ating allegiance.

Dati, we lived for ourselves.
Ngayon, nabubuhay tayo para kay Cristo.

Dati, hinahanap natin ang approval ng mundo.
Ngayon, hinahanap natin ang approval ni Cristo.

Dati, tinatanong natin:
“What will make me successful?”

Ngayon, tinatanong natin:
“What will glorify Jesus?”

APPLICATION
May mga bagay na kailangan nating tigilan na pakainin.
May mga attitudes na kailangan nating tigilan na entertain.
May mga temptations na kailangan nating tigilan na excuse.
May mga ambitions na kailangan nating isurrender.

Ang tanong ay hindi lamang:
“Popular ba ito?”

Ang tanong ay:
“Does this belong to the life of someone who has been crucified with Christ?”

Kapag dumarating ang temptation:
Remember the cross.

Kapag dumarating ang pride:
Remember the cross.

Kapag dumarating ang bitterness:
Remember the cross.

Kapag gusto ng flesh na siya ang masunod:
Remember the cross.

III. SEPARATION OF THE BELIEVER
Galatians 6:14 — “world”

Sabi ni Paul:
“and I to the world.”
Ang salitang “world” ay mula sa Greek word na kosmos, na dito ay tumutukoy sa world-system at mga values nito na kumokontra sa Diyos.

Hindi sinasabi ni Paul na dapat nating kamuhian ang mga tao.
Tayo ay tinawag na mahalin ang mga tao.

- Nabubuhay tayo sa mundo.
- Nagtatrabaho tayo sa mundo.
- Nag-aaral tayo sa mundo.
- Nagpapalaki tayo ng pamilya sa mundo.
- Naglilingkod tayo sa ministry sa mundo.

Pero ang mundo ay hindi dapat maging ating master.

THE BOAT ILLUSTRATION
Ang bangka ay para sa tubig.
Pero hindi dapat pumasok ang tubig sa loob ng bangka.
Ganoon din ang Christian.
Nabubuhay tayo sa mundo.

Pero hindi dapat mapuno ng values ng mundo ang ating puso.

Romans 12:2 says:
“And do not be conformed to this world…”

1 John 2:15 says:
“Do not love the world or the things in the world.”

At Philippians 3:20 reminds us:
“For our citizenship is in heaven…”

Ang mga paa natin ay nasa lupa.
Pero ang puso natin ay kay Cristo.

THE WORLD SAYS:
“Build your name.”

THE CROSS SAYS:
“Glorify Christ’s name.”

The world says:
“Get more.”

The cross says:
“Give yourself to Christ.”

The world says:
“Protect your image.”

The cross says:
“Die to self.”

The world says:
“Live for yourself.”

The cross says:
“LIVE FOR CHRIST.”

CHRIST-CENTERED APPLICATION
Ang center ng Galatians 6:14 ay hindi simpleng:
“Try harder to reject the world.”
Ang center ay Jesus Christ and His cross.

Si Jesus Christ ay kusang nagtiis sa cross.
He bore our sin.
Dinala Niya ang ating shame.
He suffered in our place.

Ibinigay Niya ang Kanyang sarili para sa atin.
He died.
And He rose again.

Because of Christ, we have forgiveness.
Because of Christ, we have reconciliation.
Because of Christ, we have new life.
Because of Christ, we have a new identity.

Kaya hindi natin nalalabanan ang mundo sa pamamagitan lamang ng sariling strength.
We look to Christ.

Habang mas nakikita natin ang glory ni Cristo,
mas nawawala ang attraction ng glory ng mundo.
The more precious Christ becomes, the less attractive the world becomes.

FAMILY
Mga parents, hayaan nating ang cross ang humubog sa ating tahanan.
Turuan natin ang ating mga anak na ang success ay hindi lamang tungkol sa pera, possessions, education, o magandang career.
Turuan natin sila na ang tunay na greatness ay ang makilala si Cristo at maging faithful sa Kanya.
Christ is more valuable than everything the world can offer.

MINISTRY
Ang ministry ay hindi dapat maging platform para sa personal glory.
We preach Christ.
We serve Christ.
We point people to Christ.
Ang church ay kay Cristo.
Ang glory ay kay Cristo.
Ang message ay tungkol kay Cristo.
Nothing but the cross.

WORK
Ang workplace mo ay hindi lamang lugar para kumita ng pera.
Ito rin ay lugar kung saan maaari mong ipakita si Cristo.
Work honestly.
Serve faithfully.
Treat people with dignity.
Tumanggi sa dishonest gain.
Ang occupation mo ay kung ano ang ginagawa mo.
Christ is who you belong to.

STUDENTS
Huwag mong hayaang ang grades, popularity, appearance, possessions, o social approval ang maging identity mo.
Study diligently.
Pursue excellence.
Pero huwag mong ibase ang worth mo sa achievements.
Hindi classmates mo ang nagdedetermine ng value mo.
Hindi social media ang nagdedetermine ng value mo.
Your identity is found in Christ.
Nothing but the Cross.

CONCLUSION
Dinadala tayo ng Galatians 6:14 sa isang napakahalagang tanong:

WHAT IS WORTH BOASTING ABOUT?
Hindi ang strength natin.
Hindi ang achievements natin.
Hindi ang reputation natin.
Hindi ang possessions natin.
Hindi ang popularity natin.
Hindi ang religious performance natin.

NOTHING BUT THE CROSS.

Sa cross, nakikita natin kung gaano kaseryoso ang ating kasalanan.
Sa cross, nakikita natin kung gaano kalaki ang love ng Diyos.
Sa cross, nakikita natin ang holiness ng Diyos.
Sa cross, nakikita natin ang mercy ni Cristo.
Sa cross, nakikita natin na ang dati nating identity ay kailangang mamatay.

At sa cross, natutuklasan natin na ang pinakamalaking treasure natin ay hindi ang kaya nating gawin para kay Cristo.
Ang pinakamalaking treasure natin ay ang ginawa ni Cristo para sa atin.
Kaya kapag tinanong tayo ng mundo:
“Ano ang ipinagmamalaki mo?”
Let the answer of your life be:

NOTHING BUT THE CROSS.
Kapag may success:
Nothing but the cross.
Kapag may suffering:
Nothing but the cross.
Kapag pinupuri tayo ng mga tao:
Nothing but the cross.
Kapag tinatanggihan tayo ng mga tao:
Nothing but the cross.
Kapag tayo ay naglilingkod:
Nothing but the cross.
Kapag tayo ay nabubuhay:
Nothing but the cross.

At kapag natapos na ang ating earthly journey, nawa'y ito pa rin ang maging testimony ng ating buhay:

“NOTHING BUT THE CROSS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

CHALLENGE QUESTION
Kung mawala sa iyo ang lahat maliban kay Cristo, sapat pa rin ba sa iyo si Cristo?
Kung wala ang pera, posisyon, achievements, recognition, at possessions - kung si Cristo lamang ang natira—masasabi mo pa rin ba na, “Christ is enough”?
May Christ alone receive all the glory.

Kapag ang krus ni Cristo ang sentro ng ating buhay, hindi na tayo namumuhay para sa mundo kundi para kay Cristo. At ang pagbabagong nakikita sa ating buhay—sa ating salita, ugali, at pamumuhay - ay patunay na si Cristo ay buhay sa atin.

Hindi lang tayo tagasunod ni Cristo; tayo ay PROOF OF LIFE.

WALKING IN TRUTH: OVERCOMING MANIPULATION

INTRODUCTION
Manipulation is the attempt to control others through deception, pressure, guilt, fear, or emotional tactics rather than through honest and loving communication.

It can be obvious, but often it is subtle.
It may sound like:
“If you really loved me, you would do this.”

Or:
“Fine. Do whatever you want.”
The words may sound harmless, but the intention is to create pressure and control.
The danger is that we can manipulate others while convincing ourselves that we are simply trying to help them.

But God sees beyond our words.
He sees our motives.

That is why overcoming manipulation is not merely a communication issue.
It is a heart issue.

God calls His people to walk in truth
—to live with integrity, pure motives,
God-centered priorities, and truth expressed through love.

Proposition
A believer overcomes manipulation by walking in integrity, purity, God-centered priority, and mature truth expressed through love.

Big Question
How can we overcome manipulation and learn to walk in truth?

I. INTEGRITY OF THE BELIEVER
Truth Instead of Manipulation
Proverbs 12:22 — Truth
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,
but those who deal truthfully are His delight.”

God does not treat dishonesty as a minor character flaw.
He hates lying, and He delights in truthfulness.

Integrity means that our private character agrees with our public testimony.
We are truthful when people are watching, and we are truthful when nobody is watching.

Manipulation asks:
“How can I get this person to do what I want?”
Integrity asks:

“How can I honor God in this situation?”
That difference changes everything.

Sometimes integrity simply means having the humility to say:
“I was wrong.”
“I am sorry.”
“Please forgive me.”

Those words may wound our pride,
but they can restore broken trust.
A manipulative person tries to control the outcome.
A person of integrity entrusts the outcome to God.
Truth builds trust.

II. PURITY OF THE BELIEVER
No Hidden Agenda
2 Corinthians 4:2 — Sincerity
Paul writes:
“But we have renounced the hidden things of shame,
not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully…”

Paul rejected hidden practices and deceptive methods.
Why?

Because God's people should not need manipulation to accomplish God's purposes.
Manipulation often begins in places other people cannot see
—a hidden motive, a secret resentment, or an intention to control.

We may hide our motives from people, but we cannot hide them from God.
He sees the conversation nobody heard.
He sees the intention behind the action.
He knows whether we are serving from love or seeking recognition.

So we must allow God to examine our hearts.
“Lord, remove every hidden motive that does not honor You.”

Purity means that our relationships are not built on secret agendas.
We do not love people so that we can control them.
We love because Christ first loved us.

III. PRIORITY OF THE BELIEVER
God's Approval Over People's Applause
Galatians 1:10 — God's Approval

Paul asks:
“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men?”
One reason people manipulate is fear of rejection.

We want people to like us.
We want their approval.
We want them to agree with us.

And when their opinion becomes too important, we begin trying to control how they see us.

Paul chose a different priority:
Pleasing God.
When God's approval becomes more important than people's applause,
we no longer need to control everyone's opinion.

We can be misunderstood and remain faithful.
We can be criticized and remain faithful.
We can even be rejected and remain faithful.

Why?
Because our identity is not built on human approval.
Our identity is secure in Christ.

Jesus never manipulated people into following Him.
He spoke truth, showed compassion, and invited people to follow Him.
He even allowed people to walk away.
That is genuine love.
Love does not require control.

IV. MATURITY OF THE BELIEVER
Truth with Love
Ephesians 4:15 — Truth in Love

Paul teaches:
“But, speaking the truth in love,
may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.”

Spiritual maturity is not simply knowing the truth.
It is knowing how to speak the truth in love.

We can say something that is completely true and still communicate it with a wrong spirit.
Truth can become a weapon when our goal is to embarrass, dominate, or win.

But biblical truth seeks restoration and growth.

The question is not only:
“Is what I am saying true?”

It is also:
“Am I saying it in love?”

Truth without love can crush.
Love without truth can mislead.

But truth in love produces growth.

Manipulation says:
“Change because I want control.”

Christlike love says:
“I care enough to tell you the truth,
and I care enough to speak it with grace.”

That is maturity.

CHRIST-CENTERED APPLICATION
Jesus Christ is not merely an example of truth.
Jesus is the Truth.

He said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
— John 14:6

And John 8:32 says:
“And you shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.”

The ultimate answer to manipulation is not simply becoming a better communicator.
It is becoming more like Christ.

When Christ transforms our hearts,
we no longer need to control people to feel secure.
We can be honest because Christ gives us grace.
We can admit our failures because Christ gives us forgiveness.
We can release people because Christ is Lord.
We can stop seeking everyone's approval because our identity is secure in Him.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION
In the Family
Let honesty become safe in your home.
Parents, model the integrity you expect from your children.
Husbands and wives, do not use guilt, silence, affection, or money as tools of control.
Instead, communicate honestly and listen with humility.

In Ministry
Leaders should never use guilt as a substitute for godly leadership.
We can challenge without controlling.
We can correct without humiliating.
We can lead without manipulating.
The people we serve ultimately belong to Christ.

In the Workplace
Be truthful even when dishonesty seems easier.
Do not manipulate co-workers to gain recognition,
avoid responsibility, or get your preferred outcome.
Let your character speak when nobody is applauding.

With Students and Young People
Do not measure your worth by popularity or approval.
You do not need to manipulate friendships to keep people close.
Be truthful, respectful, and secure in Christ.

CONCLUSION
Manipulation creates distance.
Truth builds trust.

Manipulation seeks control.
Integrity seeks to honor God.

Manipulation hides motives.
Purity brings them into the light.

Manipulation seeks people's approval.
Faithfulness seeks God's approval.

And maturity learns to speak truth with love.
The Christian life is not about controlling people.
It is about surrendering ourselves to Christ.

So before we ask,
“Who is manipulating me?”,
we should ask:
“Lord, is there any way I am manipulating others?”

Is there a hidden motive?
Is there a fear of rejection?
Is there a desire to control?
Is there a truth I need to speak with greater love?

Today, surrender it to Christ.
Choose truth.
Build trust.
Live free.

Because when Christ rules our hearts,
we no longer need manipulation as our weapon.
We can walk in integrity.
We can live with purity.
We can seek God's approval.

And we can speak the truth in love.
May our lives become a testimony that the truth of Christ does not merely change what we say
- it changes who we are.
Amen.

Challenge Question
What is one manipulative pattern you need to surrender to Christ today so that you can walk more honestly, lovingly, and freely?

Our lives should be a Proof of Life - evidence that Christ is truly alive in us.
We do not only say that Jesus is alive; our lives should show it.
Walk in truth, live in love, and let your life point others to Jesus.

THE GOD OF TRUTH

Walking in Truth and Love

TEXT: 2 JOHN 1:1–6 (KJV)

Good day, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today, I want to bring you a message that I believe is extremely important for every Christian.

Our message is entitled:

“THE GOD OF TRUTH: WALKING IN TRUTH AND LOVE.”

Our text is found in 2 John 1:1–6.

And I want you to listen carefully because this passage gives us a beautiful picture of what genuine Christianity should look like.

We live in a world where truth is constantly being questioned.

People say,
“Your truth is your truth.”
“My truth is my truth.”
“Just follow your heart.”
“Do whatever makes you happy.”

But the Bible does not teach us that truth is something we invent.
Truth comes from God.

And when we know the God of truth, that truth must affect the way we live.

At the same time, we live in a world that talks constantly about love.
But what kind of love?

Biblical love is not simply an emotion.
Biblical love is not merely saying,

“I love you.”

Biblical love is demonstrated through the way we live.
That is why John connects three things together:

Truth.
Love.
Obedience.

And these three things should be visible in the life of every genuine believer.
So today, I want us to see three characteristics of a believer who walks with the God of truth.

---
I. VERITY OF THE BELIEVER
2 John 1:1–3 — Truth

John begins this letter by emphasizing something very important:

Truth.
He speaks about the truth that is in the believer.
He speaks about truth that remains.
He speaks about truth that produces grace, mercy, and peace.

And in verse 2, John reminds us that the truth dwells in us.

Think about that.
The truth of God is not supposed to remain merely on the pages of our Bible.

It is supposed to dwell in our hearts.

The Greek word translated truth is alētheia, Strong's G225.

It carries the idea of truth, reality, certainty, and that which is genuine.

Christianity is not built upon human opinion.
Christianity is built upon divine truth.

Jesus said in John 14:6,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Notice that Jesus did not say,
“I am one possible truth.”

He said,
“I am the truth.”

That means when we come to Christ, we are not merely adopting a philosophy.
We are coming into a relationship with the One who is truth.
And because Christ is truth, His truth must affect our lives.

TRUTH GIVES US STABILITY

Our world changes constantly.
Opinions change.
Culture changes.
Trends change.
People change.

But God's truth does not change.

Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that the Word of our God stands forever.
Think about a house during a storm.

The wind may become stronger.
The rain may become heavier.
The darkness may become deeper.

But if the foundation is strong, the house can stand.

That is what God's truth does for the believer.
Truth gives stability.

When everything around you is changing,
you can still stand.

When people disappoint you,
you can still stand.

When circumstances become difficult,
you can still stand.

When the world tells you to compromise,
you can still stand.

Why?
Because your foundation is not public opinion.

Your foundation is God's Word.

TRUTH GIVES US DIRECTION

Imagine trying to travel without knowing where you are going.
You can walk very confidently and still be going in the wrong direction.

Confidence does not make the wrong road right.
You need direction.
And God's Word gives us direction.

Psalm 119:105 says,
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

The Bible does not merely tell us what happened thousands of years ago.

The Word of God speaks into our lives today.
It tells us how to live.
How to forgive.
How to love.
How to work.
How to raise our families.
How to handle temptation.
How to treat other people.
How to respond to suffering.
How to worship God.
How to follow Christ.

So, beloved,
don't allow the world to become your compass.

Let God's Word be your compass.

TRUTH GIVES US DISCERNMENT

There are many voices speaking today.

Social media has a voice.
Entertainment has a voice.
Culture has a voice.
Friends have a voice.
Politicians have a voice.
Influencers have a voice.

But the Christian must ask:
“What does God say?”

Not,
“What is popular?”

Not,
“What is trending?”

Not,
“What does everybody else believe?”

But,
“What does the Word of God say?”

A believer who knows the truth can recognize error.

That is why we need to know Scripture.
You cannot recognize counterfeit money merely by studying counterfeit money.
You learn the genuine thing.

Then you can recognize what is false.

The more deeply we know God's Word, the more clearly we can recognize teachings that do not agree with God's Word.

TRUTH MUST DWELL IN US

There is a difference between having a Bible and having God's Word living in your heart.
You can own a Bible and never read it.
You can read the Bible and never obey it.
You can memorize verses and still refuse to allow those verses to change your life.

God's desire is deeper.
He wants truth to dwell in us.

Truth should affect our thinking.
Truth should affect our speech.
Truth should affect our relationships.
Truth should affect our decisions.
Truth should affect our private life.
Truth should affect our public life.

So let me ask you:
Is God's truth merely something you know, or is it something that is shaping who you are?

Because the God of truth calls us to walk in truth.

II. CHARITY OF THE BELIEVER
2 John 1:4–5 — Love

Now notice something beautiful.
John does not stop with truth.

He moves from truth to love.
In verse 4, John rejoices because he has found believers who are walking in truth.
Then in verse 5, he reminds them of the commandment:
“that we love one another.”

The Greek word for love is agapē, Strong's G26.
This is not merely emotional affection.

Biblical love is sacrificial.
Biblical love seeks the good of another.
Biblical love reflects the character of Christ.
And this is important:

Truth and love belong together.

TRUTH WITHOUT LOVE
Truth without love can become harsh.

A person may know Scripture but use Scripture like a weapon.
A person may be doctrinally correct but relationally cruel.
A person may win an argument and lose a person.

That is not the heart of Christ.

Ephesians 4:15 tells us to speak the truth in love.

Truth matters.
But the way we communicate truth matters too.

Jesus was full of grace and truth.
He never compromised truth.
But He also demonstrated compassion.

He touched the hurting.
He welcomed the broken.
He forgave sinners.
He wept with those who mourned.
He cared for people.

So when we speak truth,
let us speak it with the heart of Christ.

LOVE WITHOUT TRUTH

But there is another danger.

Love without truth can become compromise.
Sometimes people say,

“If you love me, you will agree with everything I do.”
But biblical love does not mean approving everything.

If someone is walking toward danger, love does not remain silent.
Love warns.
Love corrects.
Love helps.
Love protects.
Love tells the truth.

If a doctor knows that a patient has a serious illness, love does not say,

“Everything is fine,”
just to make the patient feel comfortable.

Love tells the truth because the truth can lead to healing.
In the same way, biblical love does not abandon truth.
Real love operates within the truth of God.

LOVE IS SEEN IN ACTION

John does not present love merely as a feeling.
Love must become visible.
Love forgives.
Love serves.
Love encourages.
Love listens.
Love bears burdens.
Love refuses bitterness.
Love seeks reconciliation.
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love does not rejoice when another person falls.
Love does not keep a record of offenses.

And when we talk about Christian love, we are talking about the kind of love we first received from Christ.

Romans 5:8 reminds us that God demonstrated His love toward us while we were still sinners.

Jesus did not wait until we became perfect before He loved us.

He loved us in our brokenness.
He came for sinners.
He died for sinners.
He rose again for sinners.
He offers forgiveness to sinners.

And now He calls us to love others with that same Christ-centered spirit.

LOVE IN THE FAMILY
What would happen if Christian love became stronger in our homes?
What if husbands and wives chose forgiveness instead of bitterness?
What if parents demonstrated patience?
What if children honored their parents?
What if brothers and sisters stopped keeping score?
What if families prayed together?
What if our homes became places where people could see Christ?

Our homes should not merely have Christian decorations.

They should demonstrate Christian character.
Let truth fill your home.
Let love fill your home.
Let Christ rule your home.

LOVE IN THE CHURCH
The church is not a gathering of perfect people.
The church is a gathering of redeemed people.

We will sometimes misunderstand each other.
We will sometimes disappoint each other.
We will sometimes make mistakes.
But we have been called to love one another.

Jesus said that the world would recognize His disciples by their love.

That means our love for one another becomes a testimony.
The world is watching.

And one of the strongest ways we can demonstrate the reality of Christ is through the way we love one another.

So ask yourself:
When people encounter me, do they experience the love of Christ?

III. FIDELITY OF THE BELIEVER
2 John 1:6 — Obedience

Now John brings everything together.
He tells us what love actually looks like.

He says:
“And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.”

There it is.
Truth.
Love.
Obedience.

The Greek word translated walk is peripateō, Strong's G4043.
It speaks of one's manner of life or conduct.
In other words:

John is saying that love is demonstrated by the way we live.
Christianity is not merely what happens inside the church building.

It is how we walk after we leave the building.
It is how we live on Monday.
It is how we behave at work.
It is how we speak to our spouse.
It is how we treat our children.
It is how we respond when somebody hurts us.
It is what we do when nobody is watching.

OBEDIENCE IS THE EVIDENCE OF LOVE
Jesus said in John 14:15,

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Notice the connection.
Love produces obedience.

Obedience does not purchase God's love.
We do not obey so God will finally love us.
We obey because we have already experienced His love.

The cross tells us that.
Christ loved us first.
Christ gave Himself for us.
Christ saved us.

And because we love Him, we desire to follow Him.

A Christian should not constantly be asking:
“How close can I get to sin without technically crossing the line?”

The better question is:
“How close can I walk with Jesus?”
That changes everything.

OBEDIENCE WHEN IT IS DIFFICULT
It is easy to obey when obedience is convenient.

But what happens when obedience costs something?
What happens when forgiveness is difficult?
What happens when telling the truth costs you money?
What happens when standing for righteousness makes you unpopular?
What happens when following Christ means saying no to something everyone else is doing?

That is where faithfulness becomes visible.

Obedience is not proven when everything is easy.
Obedience is proven when following Christ costs something.

Daniel obeyed God when Babylon pressured him.
Joseph remained faithful when temptation came.
David continued trusting God during difficult seasons.
The apostles continued preaching Christ despite opposition.

And above all,

Jesus Christ perfectly obeyed the Father.
Philippians 2 reminds us that Christ humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus did not merely preach obedience.
He lived obedience.
And now He calls us to follow Him.

TRUTH, LOVE, AND OBEDIENCE

Now look at the progression in our passage.
Truth changes what we believe.

Love changes how we relate to people.
Obedience changes how we live.

These three cannot be separated.
If we have truth but no love,
we become cold.

If we have love but no truth,
we become compromised.

If we have truth and love but no obedience,
we become inconsistent.

But when truth, love, and obedience come together,
we display the character of Christ.
That is the kind of Christian life God desires.

CHRIST-CENTERED APPLICATION

Beloved,
this message is not ultimately about trying harder to become good Christians.

It is about becoming more like Jesus.

Jesus is the center.
Jesus is the Truth.
Jesus demonstrated perfect love.
Jesus perfectly obeyed the Father.

So when we talk about walking in truth,
we are talking about walking with Christ.
When we talk about walking in love,
we are talking about reflecting Christ.
When we talk about obedience,
we are talking about following Christ.

The Christian life begins with Christ.
It continues through Christ.
And it is lived for the glory of Christ.

FOR THE FAMILY
Parents,
teach your children truth.

But don't only teach them truth.
Show them love.
And demonstrate obedience.

Children learn more than what we say.
They watch what we do.

Let your children see you pray.
Let them see you forgive.
Let them see you open the Bible.
Let them see you serve.
Let them see you remain faithful.
Let your home become a living testimony of the grace of Christ.

FOR THE MINISTRY
To every pastor, preacher, Sunday school teacher, ministry worker, missionary, and servant of God:

Stand firmly in truth.
Serve people with love.
Remain faithful in obedience.

Ministry is not about applause.
It is not about popularity.
It is not about recognition.
It is about faithfulness to Christ.

There may be days when nobody thanks you.
There may be days when people misunderstand you.
There may be days when you feel tired.

Keep walking.
Keep serving.
Keep preaching.
Keep loving.
Keep following Christ.

Because your reward is not ultimately found in human recognition.
Your reward is in the Lord.

HONORING PASTORS AND LEADERS
Church family,
let us also learn to honor those who faithfully labor in the work of God.

Pray for your pastor.
Encourage your leaders.
Help carry the ministry.

Don't make the work harder through unnecessary criticism and division.

If correction is needed, speak biblically and graciously.
If encouragement is needed, give it.
If prayer is needed, pray.
If help is needed, serve.

The church becomes stronger when believers walk together in truth, love, and faithfulness.

FOR THE WORKPLACE
Christianity does not stop at the church door.

Take Christ to your workplace.
Be honest when dishonesty would be easier.

Work diligently when nobody is watching.
Treat coworkers with dignity.

Refuse gossip.
Refuse corruption.
Refuse bitterness.

Let your character preach even before your mouth speaks.
You may be the only Bible somebody reads today.
Let them see Christ in your conduct.

FOR STUDENTS
To every student:

You don't have to follow the crowd to have value.
You don't have to compromise your convictions to be accepted.

Stand in truth.
Walk in love.
Obey Christ.

You can be kind without compromising.
You can be different without being arrogant.
You can stand for biblical truth without treating people with hatred.

Let your classmates see that following Jesus produces a life of integrity, humility, love, and faithfulness.

WHEN YOU ARE HURT
Perhaps someone watching this message is carrying a wound.

Someone hurt you.
Someone disappointed you.
Someone betrayed your trust.

And you are struggling to forgive.

Remember this:
Christ forgave you.

The cross reminds us that we have received mercy that we did not deserve.
Forgiveness does not mean pretending that the hurt never happened.
Forgiveness means releasing vengeance to God and refusing to allow bitterness to control your heart.

Walk in truth.
Walk in love.
Walk in obedience.

Even when it hurts.

WHEN YOU ARE TEMPTED
Perhaps you are facing temptation right now.

You feel weak.
You feel like giving in.

Remember who you belong to.
You belong to Christ.

You don't need to negotiate with sin.
You don't need to see how close you can get.

Run to Christ.
Open God's Word.
Pray.
Seek accountability.
Walk in the truth.

Remember:
You are not fighting for victory as though Christ has never won.
You are standing in the victory Christ has already accomplished.

FINAL CONCLUSION
Beloved,
let us return to our title.

THE GOD OF TRUTH.
And the question is:
How should people who belong to the God of truth live?

The answer is simple.
Walk in truth.
Walk in love.
Walk in obedience.

Truth gives us our foundation.
Love gives us our expression.

Obedience gives us our demonstration.
Truth tells us what is right.

Love teaches us how to treat people.
Obedience teaches us how to live.

And all three point us back to Jesus.
Jesus is the Truth we believe.
Jesus is the Love we receive.
Jesus is the Lord we obey.

So don't merely know the truth.
Walk in the truth.

Don't merely talk about love.
Live the love of Christ.

Don't merely hear God's commands.
Walk after His commandments.

When you go home—
walk in truth.

When you go to work—
walk in truth.

When someone hurts you—
walk in love.

When obedience becomes difficult—
remain faithful.

When nobody is watching—
still follow Jesus.

When the world changes—
stand on God's truth.

When people fail you—
remember Christ's love.

When the road becomes difficult—
keep walking.

Because the God who called you is faithful.
The Christ who saved you is faithful.
The Word that He gave you is faithful.

And the Holy Spirit who dwells within you enables you to walk faithfully.

FINAL CHALLENGE
Let me leave you with one question.

If someone watched your life this week, would they see the truth of Christ in what you believe, the love of Christ in how you treat people, and the faithfulness of Christ in how you live?

Not just on Sunday.
Not just when people are watching.

But every day.
Everywhere.
In your family.
In your ministry.
At your workplace.
At school.
In your private life.
In your public life.
Truth in the heart.

Love in the walk.
Faithfulness in the life.

May we be people who do not merely speak about Jesus,
but people who walk with Jesus.

May we not merely know the truth,
but live the truth.

May we not merely talk about love,
but demonstrate the love of Christ.

And may we not merely hear God's Word,
but faithfully obey it.

Because we serve—
THE GOD OF TRUTH.

And our calling is—
WALKING IN TRUTH AND LOVE.

May our lives point people to Jesus Christ.

thank You for Your truth.
