𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦?
Posting this separately as a follow-up to my gallbladder surgery story (in case you missed it, you can read it here:

Marami kasi ang nag-message asking kung bakit kaya ako nagkabato sa apdo? so I wanted to share what I’ve learned—lalo na’t hindi lang oily food ang pwedeng maging dahilan.
Gallstones form when bile becomes imbalanced—either sobra ang cholesterol, kulang ang bile salts, or hindi nag-eempty nang maayos ang gallbladder.
Here are some of the most common causes:
1️⃣ High cholesterol / high-fat diet
Too much fat or cholesterol in your diet can throw off your bile’s balance.
Examples: cheese, full-cream milk, creamy pasta, fried food, pastries—guilty ako dito.
2️⃣ Hormonal changes (female hormones)
Estrogen can increase cholesterol in bile and slow down gallbladder movement.
Examples: pregnancy, birth control pills, or just being female (yes, that alone is a factor).
3️⃣ Sedentary lifestyle / kulang sa galaw
Lack of exercise slows down your digestion and gallbladder activity.
4️⃣ Low-fiber diet
Fiber helps keep digestion smooth and bile moving properly.
5️⃣ Skipping meals or irregular eating
Not eating on time or skipping meals affects how well your gallbladder empties. The bile builds up and becomes more concentrated.
6️⃣ Age & gender
Gallstones are more common in women, especially over 30.
7️⃣ Genetics / family history
If gallstones run in the family, you’re more likely to get them—even if you live a relatively healthy lifestyle.
𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘, the likely reasons were:
• I’m female, I'm more than 30 years old and changes with hormones during/after pregnancy.
• I didn’t exercise regularly
• I rarely ate vegetables before pregnancy (low-fiber diet). As in halos wala talaga. I only started teaching myself to eat veggies when I was trying to get pregnant, and continued for the baby during pregnancy, breastfeeding at dahil gusto ko turuan kumain ng gulay kids ko 😅. Before that—halos puro carbs and dairy.
• I’ve always loved cheese and milk, and a high-fat diet increases the likelihood of gallstones.
So, yeah! Totoo yung laging sinasabi ng isang tita ko na gut health is really important. Hi, Tita Mildred! 🫠😅
Gut health is more than just the stomach and intestines—it’s the entire digestive system working together. From the liver and gallbladder to the pancreas, stomach, and intestines, every part plays a crucial role in breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste.
Since losing my gallbladder, I’ve had to adjust my diet and focus even more on maintaining my gut health. Without a gallbladder, I’m learning how to manage digestion through smaller meals, avoiding high-fat foods, and ensuring I get enough fiber.
Taking care of your gut health is crucial for your overall well-being—whether you still have all your digestive organs or not.
P.S. Hindi lang itong mga nasa pic ang cause ng gallstone ko 😅😆 Cravings ko talaga sila ngayon! Pero medyo kailangan na talagang bawasan o iwasan, kasi lahat ng sobra ay masama 🙃
Sana makatulong at maka-inspire for a lifestyle/diet change! ✨
Pipili lang pala tayo: lifestyle change—before (Para maiwasan) or after magkasakit (Para wag ng lumala) 🤷♀️
Let's choose wisely!
