𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 | Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology (STCAST) gathered at the Dejesica Gymnasium in celebration of the most-anticipated HIMAMAT 2026, an annual welcome event for all freshman students that will mark a promising journey in the academic community. 𝗦𝗧𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST) is filled with joy and laughter on July 28, 2026, as hundreds of eager freshmen gathered to celebrate Himamat 2026, the event marking the start of their academic journey.

The day commenced with a reflective Holy Mass, setting a tone of community and gratitude. Following the Mass, Dr. Hazel C. Montepio, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered inspiring welcome remarks. She encouraged the new students to seize the opportunities college presents, create unforgettable memories, build lasting friendships, and fully immerse themselves in their college experience.

As the event unfolded, Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Maria Luz F. Dejesica addressed the freshmen, emphasizing the importance of openness to new friendships, respect for upperclassmen, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge and skills throughout the year. Her words served as a reminder of the values essential for success in both academic and social spheres.

The excitement built as freshmen eagerly participated in a variety of team-building activities, including the centipede race, caterpillar race, amazing race, and a sack-with-a-twist challenge, along with other engaging games. These interactive activities not only fostered teamwork but also provided freshmen with an invaluable opportunity to connect with their peers and adjust to the dynamics of college life.

Guided by the theme “Panaghiusa sa 2026: Embracing Diversity, Celebrating Unity, Where Connections Become Opportunities,” the event aimed to promote inclusivity and the importance of diverse friendships. As the morning program concluded, the freshman class left with lasting memories, united in their excitement and optimism for the academic year ahead. The event set a positive tone, laying the foundation for a vibrant college experience filled with growth, learning, and camaraderie.

‎[𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬] The 24-Hour Deadline

‎"In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry." Ephesians 4:26
‎
‎There is a story told of two brothers who had a falling out over something neither of them could fully remember years later. A misunderstanding, a sharp word, a wound that went unaddressed long enough to harden into resentment. They lived ten minutes apart for twenty-three years and rarely spoke.
‎
‎Twenty-three years. Over something neither of them could even clearly name anymore.
‎
‎That is what happens when the sun goes down on anger. It doesn't stay the same size. It grows.
‎
‎God knew this. Which is why He didn't leave anger management to human instinct or cultural wisdom. He put it directly in Scripture, with a deadline attached: do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. Twenty-four hours. One day. That is the window God gives anger to exist before it becomes something more dangerous.
‎
‎This is one of the 24-hour patterns woven all through Scripture. Manna expired in 24 hours. Mercy is renewed in 24 hours. And anger has a 24-hour expiration date. God is making a consistent point: some things are not meant to be carried past today.
‎
‎Anger is one of them.
‎
‎Notice that the verse doesn't say don't be angry. It says don't let the sun go down on it. There is a difference between anger and bitterness, and the difference is almost entirely about time. Anger is a natural, even appropriate response to injustice or hurt. But anger that is not addressed within a day begins to calcify. It stops being a feeling and starts being a lens. It colors every subsequent interaction with that person. It makes future offenses larger than they are. It takes something that might have been resolved over a direct conversation and turns it into a wound that requires years to heal.

‎The 24-hour deadline is not arbitrary. It is protective.
‎
‎Researchers who study conflict have found that when grievances are addressed quickly and directly, resolution is dramatically more likely than when they are allowed to sit. The human brain begins filing unresolved conflict into long-term emotional memory after roughly 24 to 48 hours, making it harder to approach with openness and grace the longer it waits. God built this into us. And He gave us the instruction that works with our biology, not against it.

‎Is there someone you are carrying anger toward past the deadline? An unresolved conflict that has been sitting long enough to harden? A wound you have been nursing instead of addressing?
‎
‎The sun has already gone down on that one. But today is a new day. And today's sun hasn't set yet.
‎
‎Reflection:
‎Is there someone you owe a conversation, a call, or an apology to? What would it look like to address it before today's sun goes down? Choose one specific action and do it today.

[𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦] STCAST's Initiative on Making the Community Well-Equipped through One-Day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Symposium

In celebration of the 2026 National Disaster Resilience Month, Santo Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology (STCAST) held its One-Day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Symposium on July 15, 2026, at the STCAST Audio-Visual Room.

The program started with welcome remarks by the Acting College President Diobein C. Flores, EdD, DPA, PhD. At the same time, the successful conduct of the activity was made possible through the coordination of Ronald E. Almagro, PhD, with the allied offices, clubs, and student organizations.

Leading the symposium, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) – Davao del Norte, the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST–PAGASA), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region XI of Santo Tomas joined forces to equip students, faculty members, and school personnels with knowledge on disaster preparedness, emergency response, fire safety, basic life support, earthquake and geohazard awareness, and climate change adaptation strategies.

This initiative was organized to educate and raise awareness among the STCAST community in preparation for potential disaster risks and emergencies. The first lecture was delivered by Mr. Melvin Roy A. Javier of PDRRMO – Administration and Training Division, who discussed the importance of disaster risk reduction and management.

This was followed by Mr. Rudnie D. Ariate, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer I from the Monitoring and Systems Maintenance Unit of PDRRMO, who introduced the province's emergency response system and proper use of emergency hotlines—including an actual demonstration of emergency calling and the roles of dispatchers and responders.

Highlighting the causes and impacts of climate change, weather disturbances, and disaster preparedness, Engr. Araya A. Mahilum of DOST–PAGASA discussed its relevance in the present times.
A first-aider student also conducted a demonstration of the proper Safety Position to equip participants with basic life-saving techniques during emergencies.

In conclusion of this event, Bureau of Fire Protection Region XI – Santo Tomas featured the Fire Safety and Community Readiness led by FO1 Christian Dave S. Dayrit and FO1 Junjee B. Ramillete as guest speakers. Joined by SFO1 Renante G. Asupan, SFO2 Carlo Jay O. Gallo, FO1 Claudine Nicole B. Batosalem, and FO1 Kieven D. Salado, who facilitated practical fire safety exercises and demonstrations, giving students opportunities to apply what they've learned during the symposium.

Through the collaborative efforts of PDRRMO – Davao del Norte, DOST–PAGASA, and the BFP Region XI – Santo Tomas, the symposium successfully ended, making the whole STCASTIAN community well-informed and more prepared in response to potential emergencies and disasters.
