𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

Northern Iloilo State University–Victorino Salcedo Sara Campus (NISU-VSC) concluded its weeklong Values Emphasis Week on September 19 at the campus gymnasium with a discussion on spirituality.

The program was spearheaded by the Values Restoration Office through Dr. Jesha May C. de la Rama, Values Restoration Officer, with the support of Dr. Raffy B. Chavez, Campus Administrator .

Guest speaker Rev. Bygie Tuliva led the culminating activity, where he shared insights on the deeper meaning of spirituality and its importance in everyday life.

He emphasized that spirituality goes beyond religious practices, noting that it carries different meanings for different people.

“Kun makabati kita sang ginatawag nga ‘spirituality,’ most of us gina paminsar nga religious ina dayon. Spirituality means different things to different people,” he said.

Rev. Tuliva also encouraged students to reflect on their personal relationship with Jesus Christ, presenting spirituality as a source of guidance, purpose, hope, and motivation.

The program ended with a prayer led by Rev. Tuliva, formally closing the five-day celebration of Values Emphasis Week at NISU-VSC.

Northern Iloilo State University – Victorino Salcedo Sara Campus (NISU VSC) highlighted the importance of cooperation through meaningful talks on the fourth day of the Values Emphasis Week on September 18, 2025 held at the campus gymnasium.

In line with the theme “One Community, One Purpose: Rooted in Spirituality, Guided by Values,” students gathered in the morning and afternoon sessions to reflect on the essence of cooperation from Pastor Melchor R. Panolino Jr., who served as a guest speaker sharing meaningful insights on how cooperation builds a harmonious community.

"Cooperation promotes creativity and improved communication.” Pastor Panolino said, emphasizing that cooperation is a key to stronger communities.

He also encouraged students to apply this value not only in academics but also in their personal lives, organizations, and future endeavors.

Day 4 of the weeklong Values Emphasis Week continued the university’s mission of shaping students to be spiritually rooted and value-driven.

Northern Iloilo State University – Victorino Salcedo Campus (NISU-VSC) continued its Values Emphasis Week celebration with a Socratic discussion on humility held on September 17 at the campus gymnasium.

Guest speaker Atty. James Balsomo II, delivered a talk highlighting the moral, intellectual, and personal dimensions of humility and their importance in character formation and leadership.

“Humility is the acceptance of truth and accepting the fact that ourself has a limitation,” Atty. Balsomo said, encouraging students to reflect on personal growth and openness to learning.

He also warned against moral and intellectual arrogance, describing them as hindrances to genuine understanding and relationships.

Day 3 emphasized the university’s commitment to instilling core Filipino values and promoting holistic development among students.

Northern Iloilo State University–Victorino Salcedo Sara Campus (NISU-VSSC) continued the observance of Values Emphasis Week on September 16, 2025, with a discussion on Filipino values held at the campus gymnasium.

The session was led by Dr. Gezette B. Almanzor, Values Restoration Officer and resource speaker, who focused on the theme of interdependence—underscoring the importance of mutual reliance and compassion in building character and shaping behavior.

“When you aim, do not just aim for yourself. Aim for all, and most importantly—aim because you want to glorify and honor God,” Dr. Almanzor said.

She also emphasized the role of forgiveness as a value, describing it as an intentional and voluntary act of letting go of resentment and the desire for retribution. According to her, forgiveness fosters emotional healing, reconciliation, and personal growth.

The activity was attended by students from all year levels, reflecting the campus-wide commitment to values formation.

Northern Iloilo State University–Victorino Salcedo Campus (NISU-VSC) opened Values Emphasis Week 2025 on September 15 with the theme “One Community, One Purpose: Rooted in Spirituality, Guided by Values.”

Students from the BS Criminology and BINDTECH departments attended the morning session, while BS Hospitality Management and Tourism Management students joined in the afternoon.

The annual week-long program aims to strengthen students’ character by highlighting values essential in academic and personal life.

Atty. Mary Patricia Alcantara Basinang served as the keynote speaker during the opening day. She focused her talk on accountability, beginning with an interactive discussion on students’ knowledge of law and responsibility, and later citing examples drawn from pressing social issues in the country.

“Life will test you when you’re tired, desperate, or eager to impress. Still—own your choices, because accountability defines you,” she said.

She also underscored the value of integrity, describing it as a principle that complements accountability. According to her, while a degree may show what a person knows, integrity reveals who they truly are.

The celebration of Values Emphasis Week at NISU-VSC will run until September 19, featuring lectures and activities centered on honesty, respect, and social responsibility.
