Negros Oriental State University-Siaton Campus Cultivates Inclusive Perspectives with Gender and Development Orientation for Freshmen
Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) recently hosted a successful orientation with the theme "Basic Orientation on Gender and Development Concepts: Cultivating Inclusive Perspectives for First Year Students." The event was held this morning at Municipal Gymnasium-Siaton, aimed to introduce freshmen to the fundamental principles of gender and development, fostering a more inclusive and understanding academic community from the outset.
The program began at 8:00 AM with registration, managed by the GAD Angels, ensuring a smooth start for the eager participants. Following a welcoming opening prayer and the National Anthem, delivered via audio, Dr. Candido G. Kinkito Jr., OIC and Campus Director, delivered opening remarks. He emphasized the importance of GAD education in shaping well-rounded individuals and promoting a respectful campus environment.
A lively intermission number by BSHM III Set B provided a refreshing interlude before the core sessions began. Prof. Edralyn L. Dela Rosa, Campus GAD Director, then introduced Prof. Jazzie Ocao, CAS GAD Coordinator from the Main Campus, who led the central "Orientation Proper." This session focused on basic GAD concepts, aiming to equip the first-year students with the knowledge and awareness necessary to navigate university life with an inclusive mindset.
Following the orientation, Prof. Jazzie Ocao received a certificate, acknowledging Prof. Ocao's engagement with the program. An open forum allowed students to ask questions, share their initial thoughts, and deepen their understanding of the topics discussed.
Another intermission number, this time featuring Camille Silva from BSHM III, added to the vibrant atmosphere. Prof. Charity T. Jereza, Deputy Dean and Administrative Officer V, delivered an inspirational message, encouraging the freshmen to embrace diversity and contribute to a more equitable campus culture.
Prof. Edralyn L. Dela Rosa provided closing remarks, summarizing the key points of the orientation and thanking the students for their active participation. The event concluded with the NORSU Hymn, reinforcing a sense of unity and shared commitment to the university's values. This GAD orientation marks a significant step in NORSU's ongoing efforts to integrate gender and development principles into the educational experience, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all its students.
