Today marks the fourth celebration of World Statistics Day since it began in October 20, 2010. But this isn’t just a date—it’s a reminder that behind every policy, every decision, and every headline that matters, there are numbers that speak.

Statistics help us understand what’s really happening in our communities. They show us where help is needed, what’s improving, and what still needs work. From health to education, from poverty to progress—data gives us the full picture.

This year’s theme, “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone,” reminds us that data should not only be accurate—it should be accessible, inclusive, and used to uplift lives. Because when statistics are gathered with care and shared with purpose, they become tools for real change.

This day honors the people who collect, analyze, and protect that data. Because when statistics are used with integrity, they become more than numbers—they become instruments of justice, truth, and progress.

In a world full of opinions, statistics ground us in facts. And that’s something worth celebrating.

Sa panahong tila ang ating mga trabaho ang siyang nagiging sukatan ng ating halaga bilang tao, madalas nating nakakaligtaan na tayo'y tao lamang—napapagod, nalulungkot, at nangangailangan ng pahinga. Sa gitna ng ating mga pinagdaraanan, madalas nating marinig ang mga pangganyak na kataga tulad ng, “lumaban ka lang,” at “bangon muli.” Ngunit kailan naging masama ang sandaling huminto at magpahinga?

Ngayong World Mental Health Day, mahalagang ipaalala na ang kalusugang pangkaisipan ay hindi lamang tungkol sa katatagan, kundi pati na rin sa pag-aalaga sa sarili. Tandaan: Ang pagpapahinga ay hindi isang kahinaan; ito ay isang karapatan. Hindi ito nangangahulugan ng pagsuko sa laban, kundi isang paghahanda upang ipagpatuloy ito nang may mas malinaw na isip at mas matatag na puso.

Maraming Pilipino ang tahimik na lumalaban sa kani-kanilang mga hamon. Sa kabila ng mga ngiti, may mga matang pagod; sa likod ng sigla, may mga pusong puno ng bigat. Kaya’t sa halip na pilitin ang sarili na maging “ayos” lang, nawa’y matuto ang lahat na tanggapin na hindi araw-araw ay magaan—at walang mali kung minsan ay titigil at magpapahinga.

Sa mabilis na takbo ng buhay, ang pagpapahinga ay isang tahimik ngunit makapangyarihang pahayag: “Pinili kong unahin ang aking kapayapaan.” Ang mundo ay hindi titigil dahil sa ating sandaling pagtigil; sa katunayan, bago tayo muling bumangon, karapatan nating magpahinga.

Ngayong World Mental Health Day, ating isabuhay ang kasabihan: “Rest is not idleness. It is the space where strength quietly rebuilds.” Ang pahinga ay hindi katumbas ng pagsuko—ito’y paraan ng pagpapahalaga sa buhay.

To finish this up, I, John Carlos Calubaquib, the COMELEC 2025 chairperson, would like to express my deepest gratitude for the whole COMELEC 2025 members for standing by me from start to finish throughout the Psychology Society 2025-2026 elections. I am beyond proud of what we have accomplished together, from organizing and completing each event to overcoming the challenges and conflicts that came our way.

These past few weeks have been such a meaningful journey. I've learned so much, gained valuable experience, and created memories that I will truly cherish. More than the knowledge and skills, I’ve found a family within this team, one that made this journey worthwhile even if sometimes it felt difficult to handle and some situations make me feel that it's unbearable. But the journey is still wonderful despite a few setbacks we have encountered.

Lastly, I also want to clarify that DAsein Times Publication has nothing to do with COMELEC's activities and decisions on some matters, as we are just using their page to inform the public about what's happening inside the COMELEC and for the past elections. I apologize to those who were affected with the shortcomings on our part as the COMELEC.

Special Education (SpEd) teachers are not merely educators; they are advocates, cheerleaders, and guides for children with diverse learning needs. Progress in their eyes cannot be measured by grades alone, but rather through every milestone reached, every word spoken, and every new idea and belief they help cultivate.

Su***de Prevention Month was first organized in 2003 by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). This month invites us to pause and remember the loved ones we’ve lost, the families who carry their grief, and the countless people quietly fighting their own battles every day. Su***de is still one of the most urgent public health challenges around the globe, but stigma keeps it in the shadows. Too often, the fear of being judged keeps individuals from speaking about their struggles, leaving them isolated in their pain. Silence, perhaps, is not neutral—it can be fatal.

Talking about mental health isn’t just important—it can truly save lives. When we’re open about these topics, we help create spaces where people feel truly seen, heard, and valued. Even a few kind words or a gentle check-in can make a world of difference. Imagine what it feels like to be so overwhelmed, to feel invisible because nobody ever reached out. Simple phrases like, “How are you—really? ” or “I’m here if you need me,” might be the lifeline someone needs to remember their story isn’t over yet.

Communities, families, schools, and workplaces have an essential role in normalizing these conversations. Educational campaigns, peer support programs, and mental health dialogues can encourage more people to seek help without fear of judgment. On an individual level, we can all take part: check in with a loved one, listen without interrupting, and remind others that professional help is available and effective.

Breaking the silence does not mean we must have all the answers. It means showing up, listening, and offering compassion instead of criticism. It means replacing stigma with support and fear with understanding. The act of speaking—and more importantly, listening—can be the bridge between despair and hope.

Before Su***de Prevention Month ends, let us commit to being intentional with our words and presence. Someone in your life may be waiting for a sign that it’s safe to speak up. You can be that sign. You can spark that conversation. Remember, silence isolates, but conversations can save lives.
