"Do we need another Pentecost? Absolutely not! To ask for another Pentecost is not only theologically mistaken—it borders on blasphemy, particularly against the Person and work of God the Holy Spirit.
Think about it: if you are a true believer in Christ—a genuinely born-again Christian—has not the Lord already sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost? Hasn’t He already sealed you with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13–14)? You already have the indwelling Spirit of God (Rom. 8:9–11); therefore, you do not need another Pentecost or a so-called “upgrade” or “double portion,” as if the Spirit given to you is insufficient, deficient, or powerless.
Pastors and leaders, repent. Worship leaders, singers, and ministers—repent if you are leading people to cry out for another Spirit, a new Pentecost, or a fresh outpouring in a way that implies the insufficiency of what God has already done. That is spiritual grandstanding. Do yourself and your congregations a favor: do not deceive yourselves—and do not deceive the people of God.
Yes, we are God’s children—if truly born again through Christ. But let us not presume to act as if we are gods ourselves—commanding, dispatching, dispensing, or summoning the Holy Spirit at will. We are not sovereign. We do not send the Spirit. God does (John 14:16–17; Acts 2:33).
Let this humble us.
Let us .
Let's Repent!
✦ Biblical Text
1. The Holy Spirit was already sent at Pentecost—once for all.
Acts 2:1–4 – The Holy Spirit came upon the church once and inaugurated the New Covenant era.
Acts 2:33 (ESV) – “Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.”
2. Every believer receives the Holy Spirit at conversion.
Romans 8:9 (NASB1995) – “But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.”
1 Corinthians 6:19 – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?”
Ephesians 1:13–14 (NKJV) – “…you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…”
3. Asking for another Pentecost denies the sufficiency of the Spirit's work.
2 Peter 1:3 – “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…”
John 14:16 – “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
4. God alone sends the Spirit according to His sovereign will.
John 3:8 – “The wind blows where it wishes… So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
Zechariah 4:6 – “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts.
5. Commanding the Holy Spirit reflects theological arrogance.
Job 38:2 – “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?”
Isaiah 40:13–14 – “Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has informed Him?”
