A Community's Embrace: Sorsogon Honors Its Elders

Today, in Sorsogon City, we were privileged to experience something unusual as the Villa Isabel was the site of the first cash gift-giving to our seniors. With the initiative of President BBM and the push from the National Commission of Senior Citizens, the activity was a giant leap forward in the manner in which we hold in high esteem the sacrifices of our seniors.

It was Mayor Ester Hamor who initiated the event, and her words of encouragement made all the difference. She spoke eloquently about the need to treat our seniors not as persons in need but as rightful members of society. Spending cash was mostly a brainchild, but it was the message of respect and thankfulness that put us in the limelight. To actually go see our seniors in person was just great. You could feel the gratitude, the pride, and quite frequently just plain happiness. They are individuals who have seen so much change and have enriched our culture with their work ethic, determination, and experience.

Mayor Hamor explained that this is not an isolated case but a master plan to help and engage our elderly in our community. She explained that giving them the care they deserve dignifies their experience and respects their rights.

The atmosphere in the gym was friendly and warm. It reminded us of the importance of continuing to develop those human connections and caring communities in our own hectic lives. This experience definitely brought home the value of looking after one another, of compassion, and of empathy. In short, this day was doing more than handing out some cash; it was a welcome reminder of the promise to continue the value of honoring our aging population by living their legacy. It was an exercise that reminded us of the value of a people in which all their citizens, regardless of age, feel valued and loved.

596 TUPAD Beneficiaries sa Irosin, Sorsogon, Tumanggap ng Bayad Matapos ang 10 Araw na Paglilinis sa Kanilang Barangay

Irosin, Sorsogon (Pebrero 27, 2025) – Matagumpay na naibigay ang bayad sa 596 na mga benepisyaryo ng TUPAD (Tulong Eskwela Program) sa bayan ng Irosin, Sorsogon matapos ang kanilang 10 araw na paglilinis sa kani-kanilang mga barangay. Ang programa ay pinamunuan ni Congressman Wowo Fortes, ang kinatawan ng Ikalawang Distrito ng Sorsogon.

Sa ilalim ng TUPAD, nakatanggap ang mga benepisyaryo ng kabayaran para sa kanilang paglilingkod sa komunidad. Nakatulong ang programa sa pagpapanatili ng kalinisan at kaayusan sa mga barangay at nagbigay ng pagkakataon sa mga residente na kumita habang naglilingkod sa kanilang komunidad.

"Nais naming pasalamatan ang lahat ng mga benepisyaryo ng TUPAD sa kanilang dedikasyon at pagsisikap," pahayag ni Congressman Fortes. "Ang programa ay patunay na ang pagtutulungan ng pamahalaan at ng mga mamamayan ay makakatulong sa pag-unlad ng ating bayan."

Layunin ng TUPAD na bigyan ng trabaho at suporta ang mga mahihirap na pamilya sa pamamagitan ng mga programa na naglalayong mapabuti ang mga komunidad. Ang programang ito ay isang patunay na ang pag-unlad ay nakakamit sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan at pagmamalasakit sa kapwa.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted a payout for 462 beneficiaries of the Cash-for-Training and Work (CFTW) Risk Resiliency Program -
PROJECT LAWA AT BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished),
in partnership with our Local Government, particularly the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office(MSWDO) and Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).
The said project aimed to strengthen the capabilities of the
poor and vulnerable families in the municipality of Castilla. This project is a proactive intervention and sustainable solution addressing food insecurity and scarcity due to climate change.

City Mayor Ester Hamor, accompanied by City Administrator Atty. Mark Gerald Guirindola, City Legal Officer Atty. Cyril Oropesa, and other officials of LGU Sorsogon City, paid a visit to the office of Senate President Chiz Escudero.

Senator Chiz Escudero, a distinguished figure hailing from Sorsogon, has had a remarkable political journey. Beginning as a congressman in the first district of Sorsogon from 1998 to 2007, he later served as a Senator from 2007 to 2019.

Following his term as Senator, he successfully ran for and assumed the position of Governor of the province of Sorsogon for one term. Subsequently, he triumphed in the 2019 National election, reclaiming his seat as a Senator. Most recently, Senator Chiz Escudero was elected as the Senate President of The Philippines.

The visit symbolizes a significant moment of collaboration and engagement between the local government of Sorsogon City and the esteemed Senate President, showcasing a shared commitment to the progress and development of Sorsogon and the nation as a whole.

ANOTHER PRIDE OF SORSOGON👏🎉♥️🥰

A nine-year-old child from the City of Sorsogon clinched a Gold and a Silver medal in the Philippine Archery Cup Leg 2 and Archery Grassroots Development Program Leg 2.

The said child is recognized as Enrico Sebastian R. Sipoy, who competed in the Under 13 Category with a distance of 30 meters, equivalent to the length of a full basketball court.

The child was declared Rank 1 (Gold Medalist) among twenty-one players from different parts of the Philippines in the U13 Category of the Qualification Rounds of the competition. He is also considered the youngest player in the category as he is only nine years old but competed against 10-12-year-olds.

Archer Sipoy scored 674 points, hitting the center and bullseye in thirty-four out of seventy-two arrows released. The child also brought home the Silver Medal in the Olympic Rounds of the competition.

Archer Sipoy expressed his gratitude to the mayor of the City of Sorsogon, Mayor Ester Hamor, for her Sulay sa Futuro Sports League program, one of the Mayor's 10+1+1 Agenda. The child mentioned that the mayor's program honed his skills to become an Archer, starting just last year.

It is worth noting that Archer Sipoy was also hailed as the Gold Medalist in the Under 10 Category last year at the Philippine National Indoor Archery Championships.
