The School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE) of Sulu State College officially held its General Assembly and Reception Ceremony on August 28, 2025, at the SSC Gymnasium, Walled City, Jolo, Sulu. The program, which started around 8:00 a.m., gathered both the freshmen and upper-year students of BS Criminology for a day of welcoming, learning, and unity.

The event opened with words of encouragement from Mr. Hafiiz Azeem H. Abduraup, RCrim, Student Activity Coordinator, who reminded the students to embrace their responsibilities not only as learners but also as citizens. โ€œKeep striving for more, especially in taking the responsibility of not just being a student, but a citizen as a whole,โ€ he urged.

This was followed by an inspiring message from Ms. Joan A. Alfad, RCrim, Gender and Development Coordinator, who emphasized the significance of the day as a fresh beginning. โ€œThis moment marks the beginning of your new chapter, life in college. But always remember thisโ€”you are not here by accident. You are here because you chose this spot. You are destined to be here,โ€ she said.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the Acceptance and Proclamation of Freshmen, led by Mr. Alfauzi J. Ibno, RCrim, Dean of SCJE. The newly accepted batch carried with them the name โ€œTAAYUN,โ€ which stands for Tatak ng Alab, Yaman ng Ugnayanโ€”a banner of unity, strength, and shared purpose.

The assembly also served as a meaningful transition, marking SCJEโ€™s shift from being part of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to a standalone department. Presentations included the school calendar, faculty and staff, student leaders from the College Student Government, departmental officers, and the Criminology Society.

Another proud moment was the unveiling of the official SCJE logo, symbolized by The Shield, Kalis, Scale, and Crimson Tint, alongside its emblem, โ€œThe Crimson Guardian.โ€ The official departmental club, the Criminology Society, was also formally introduced.

A re-orientation on the BS Criminology Program Policy was conducted by Ms. Alfad, ensuring that students understood the academic and behavioral guidelines of the program. An open forum followed, giving students the chance to raise their concerns and clarify matters directly with the faculty and administrators.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dean Ibno, who expressed his hopes for the studentsโ€™ continued growth and commitment as part of the SCJE family.

With the energy, excitement, and sense of belonging that filled the SSC Gymnasium, the General Assembly and Reception Ceremony was not just a formal gatheringโ€”it was a milestone that marked the beginning of new journeys and stronger bonds within the SCJE community.

The School of Social Work at Sulu State College officially opened its doors to the newest members of the Lavender Fox family during the departmental orientation held on August 21, 2025, at the SSC Multimedia Center.

As part of the spirited โ€œBiyahi 2025โ€ journey, the program introduced freshmen to the people, values, and principles that will shape their years ahead. Dean Dared Mailiza A. Alih, RSW, RN, MAN, LPT, MSSW, gave an inspiring message that set the tone for the day, urging students to pursue excellence with heart and to never forget the social workerโ€™s role in uplifting lives. Faculty introductions followed, led by Activity Coordinator Cist A. Saiyari Jr., where freshies got a glimpse of the mentors who will guide their path.

The orientation wasnโ€™t just about policies and syllabi โ€” it was about connection. A lively game on the 7 principles of social work not only tested knowledge but also sparked laughter and teamwork among the freshies. The atmosphere turned even more vibrant with an intermission performance by the JSWAP Internal Vice President, while the uniform presentation reminded everyone of the professional identity they are preparing to embody.

The morning session also featured the Junior Social Workers Association of the Philippines โ€“ SSC Chapter (JSWAP). Student leaders were introduced, inviting freshies to be part of the organization that hones leadership and camaraderie within the department. Later, parents joined in for a special session to better understand academic expectations, ensuring their support in their childrenโ€™s journey.

But the Lavender Foxesโ€™ welcome did not end there. On August 22, 2025, the freshmen explored their new academic home through a Campus Tour around SSC. Guided by upperclassmen and faculty, the freshies walked through classrooms, offices, and iconic SSC spots where their college memories will soon be built. There were bursts of laughter, endless photo moments, and even little stories shared about each corner of the campus โ€” stories that turned ordinary hallways into places of belonging.

The campus tour wasnโ€™t just about familiarizing spaces; it was about planting roots. For the Lavender Foxes, it marked the first steps of their journey โ€” a reminder that SSC is not just a school, but a community where they will grow, stumble, learn, and rise together.

The Sulu State College (SSC) School of Nursing successfully conducted its departmental orientation for nursing freshmen on August 20, 2025, at the SSC School of Nursing grounds. The event aimed to officially welcome the students and prepare them for their academic nursing journey.

The program began solemnly at 8:00 a.m. with an invocation led by Mr. Alhadz Sarapuddin, a 4th-year NSA officer. This was followed by the singing of the national anthem and the SSC hymn. The ambiance was further enhanced by the welcome address delivered by the Dean of the School of Nursing, Assoc. Prof. Alijandrina T. Jalilul, RN, MAN, Ed.D, who warmly welcomed the freshmen students.

Following the welcome address, the students were introduced to the faculty members by Ms. Jermalyn H. Amil, RN, MAN, who highlighted the qualifications and expertise of the nursing faculty. The students were also treated to a modeling of the school, PE, and RLE uniforms, giving them a glimpse of the expectations and standards of the nursing program.

The orientation continued with an RLE orientation, which provided the students with an overview of the clinical experiences they would encounter during their nursing education. The NSA (Nursing Student Association) was also introduced to the freshmen students, followed by an intermission number that showcased the talents and enthusiasm of the student body. The event concluded with an open forum, where the students had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their concerns about the nursing program.

In a separate event, a Parentโ€™s Orientation was held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where parents were informed about the nursing programโ€™s policies, procedures, and expectations. This activity gave parents the chance to meet with faculty members, raise questions, and gain a better understanding of the programโ€™s requirements and objectives.

To further help freshmen adjust to their new academic environment, the School of Nursing also joined the Campus Tour on the afternoon of August 22, 2025, at the SSC Campus Grounds. The tour allowed students to familiarize themselves with the campus facilities, learn more about available student services, and build camaraderie with their fellow Pink Falcons.

Both the departmental orientation and the campus tour proved to be resounding successes, setting a positive tone for the nursing freshmenโ€™s academic journey at the SSC School of Nursing.
