The School of Graduate Studies of Sulu State College successfully held its 3rd Hooding Ceremony and Conferral of Diplomas at the SSC Gymnasium, Walled City, Jolo on July 1, 2025. The ceremony, with the theme "Transcendence of Stalwarts: A Legacy of Excellence," honored the latest batch of graduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic and personal growth throughout their educational journeys.
The event, which began promptly at 3:00 p.m., was a momentous occasion for the students, their families, and the college’s esteemed faculty. The program opened with a grand processional, followed by a moving invocation and the National Anthem, setting the tone for an event that highlighted both tradition and academic pride.
The SSC Hymn echoed throughout the gymnasium, signaling the start of the formal ceremony. Professor Nelson U. Julhamid, Ph.D., College Vice President, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and the value of lifelong learning. "Today, we honor the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. These graduates have not only excelled academically but have also exemplified resilience in the face of challenges," said Prof. Julhamid.
As part of the highly anticipated Donning of Academic Hoods and Conferral of Diplomas, Prof. Charisma S. Ututalum, CESE, SSC President II, assisted by Prof. Masnona L. Sabdani-Asiri, DPA, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, took the stage to personally hood each graduate. The symbolic moment was further enriched as each graduate was accompanied by a family member, a gesture that brought forth tears of pride and joy.
The conferral of diplomas followed, with Prof. Julhamid once again stepping forward to award the diplomas, assisted by Mr. Kaisar A. Sakirani, RN, MAN, College Registrar. This moment marked a significant milestone for the graduates, who now stand ready to contribute their knowledge and skills to the nation.
In an inspiring message from the keynote speaker, Prof. Ututalum addressed the graduates, encouraging them to transcend beyond the walls of academia and become stalwarts in their respective fields. "This ceremony is more than a recognition of your academic success; it is a call to carry forward the legacy of excellence that has been built by those who came before you," she said.
Adding a touch of emotional nostalgia, the graduates performed the batch song "You'll Be in My Heart," leaving many in the audience teary-eyed and filled with a sense of pride for the hard work and camaraderie shared throughout their graduate school journey.
As the ceremony came to a close, Prof. Masnona L. Sabdani-Asiri delivered the closing remarks, reminding everyone that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the graduates. "The pursuit of excellence is not just a goal, but a continuous journey. Let today’s celebration inspire you to remain committed to your dreams and to your community," she said.
The event was flawlessly conducted by the Master of Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Norenna S. Sarahadil, DPA, whose grace and professionalism ensured that the program proceeded seamlessly from start to finish.
With cheers, applause, and heartfelt goodbyes, the graduates of Sulu State College’s School of Graduate Studies were sent off with the pride of having achieved not just academic success, but a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
