The School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE) of Sulu State College officially held its General Assembly and Reception Ceremony on August 28, 2025, at the SSC Gymnasium, Walled City, Jolo, Sulu. The program, which started around 8:00 a.m., gathered both the freshmen and upper-year students of BS Criminology for a day of welcoming, learning, and unity.
The event opened with words of encouragement from Mr. Hafiiz Azeem H. Abduraup, RCrim, Student Activity Coordinator, who reminded the students to embrace their responsibilities not only as learners but also as citizens. โKeep striving for more, especially in taking the responsibility of not just being a student, but a citizen as a whole,โ he urged.
This was followed by an inspiring message from Ms. Joan A. Alfad, RCrim, Gender and Development Coordinator, who emphasized the significance of the day as a fresh beginning. โThis moment marks the beginning of your new chapter, life in college. But always remember thisโyou are not here by accident. You are here because you chose this spot. You are destined to be here,โ she said.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the Acceptance and Proclamation of Freshmen, led by Mr. Alfauzi J. Ibno, RCrim, Dean of SCJE. The newly accepted batch carried with them the name โTAAYUN,โ which stands for Tatak ng Alab, Yaman ng Ugnayanโa banner of unity, strength, and shared purpose.
The assembly also served as a meaningful transition, marking SCJEโs shift from being part of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) to a standalone department. Presentations included the school calendar, faculty and staff, student leaders from the College Student Government, departmental officers, and the Criminology Society.
Another proud moment was the unveiling of the official SCJE logo, symbolized by The Shield, Kalis, Scale, and Crimson Tint, alongside its emblem, โThe Crimson Guardian.โ The official departmental club, the Criminology Society, was also formally introduced.
A re-orientation on the BS Criminology Program Policy was conducted by Ms. Alfad, ensuring that students understood the academic and behavioral guidelines of the program. An open forum followed, giving students the chance to raise their concerns and clarify matters directly with the faculty and administrators.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Dean Ibno, who expressed his hopes for the studentsโ continued growth and commitment as part of the SCJE family.
With the energy, excitement, and sense of belonging that filled the SSC Gymnasium, the General Assembly and Reception Ceremony was not just a formal gatheringโit was a milestone that marked the beginning of new journeys and stronger bonds within the SCJE community.
