Lucia dos Santos one of the Fatima visionaries, dedicating her life to spreading Mary’s messages of prayer, penance, and devotion to the Immaculate Heart.

Lucia dos Santos (1907–2005), later known as Sister Lucia, was one of the three shepherd children who witnessed the Marian apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. Born in Aljustrel, a small village near Fatima, she was the youngest of seven children in a devout Catholic family. Along with her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto, she experienced six apparitions of the Virgin Mary at the Cova da Iria, where Mary delivered messages of prayer, penance, and devotion, particularly through the Rosary. Lucia became the primary communicator of these messages, as Francisco and Jacinta both passed away during the 1918 influenza pandemic.

After the apparitions, Lucia continued to spread the message of Fatima, entering religious life to deepen her commitment. She joined the Sisters of Saint Dorothy and later became a Discalced Carmelite nun, taking the name Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart. Throughout her life, she corresponded with Church authorities, including popes, about the secrets of Fatima, which included visions of Hell, the prediction of World War II, and a call for the consecration of Russia to Mary’s Immaculate Heart. Her writings, particularly her memoirs and letters, were instrumental in spreading the devotion to Our Lady of Fatima worldwide.

Sister Lucia lived a long and quiet life in the Carmelite convent in Coimbra, Portugal, where she passed away on February 13, 2005, at the age of 97. Her cause for canonization began in 2008, and Pope Francis declared her Venerable on June 22, 2023, recognizing her heroic virtues.

Prayer for the Month of July

Heavenly Father,

As I begin this new month of July, I place my life into Your loving hands. Thank You for Your endless mercy, unfailing love, and faithful presence. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions each day, and help me to walk always according to Your holy will.

Lord Jesus, bless my family, protect us from all evil, grant healing to the sick, provide for those in need, and fill our hearts with peace, hope, and unwavering faith. May this month draw me closer to You and help me become a witness of Your love to everyone I meet.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Amen.

The Devil Appeared as Christ — But St. Martin of Tours Was Not Deceived

One day, the devil appeared before St. Martin of Tours in a dazzling vision.

He looked magnificent.

Clothed in royal purple robes, crowned with gold, and surrounded by brilliant light, the figure claimed to be Christ returning in glory.

Many would have fallen to their knees.

Many would have been deceived.

But Martin was not.

The saint had spent years in prayer, fasting, and spiritual warfare. He knew that Satan often disguises himself as an angel of light.

Looking calmly at the radiant figure before him, Martin asked a simple question:

“Where are the wounds of the Cross?”

Then he declared:

“The Lord Jesus Christ never prophesied that He would come in purple robes and a royal crown. I will not believe you are Christ unless you show me the wounds of the Cross.”

At those words, the vision vanished instantly.

The devil had been exposed.

Martin understood a profound truth: the real Christ is recognized not by earthly glory, but by the marks of His sacrifice.

This was not the only battle St. Martin fought against evil.

Throughout his life, he cast out demons, confronted dark spirits, and fearlessly defended the Gospel. Even as he lay dying, he refused to surrender an inch of ground to the enemy.

His final challenge to Satan was unforgettable:

“What do you want, horrible beast? You will find nothing in me that is yours!”

St. Martin is often remembered for cutting his cloak in half to share it with a freezing beggar, only to later see Christ wearing that very cloak in a vision.

But his courage in spiritual warfare is equally inspiring.

In a world filled with confusion, deception, and false promises, St. Martin reminds us to test every spirit, remain rooted in Christ, and never separate the glory of the Resurrection from the wounds of the Cross.

St. Martin of Tours, pray for us.
