HABEMUS ARCHIEPISCOPUM NOVUM | The Holy Father Pope Leo XIV has appointed the Most Reverend Alberto “Abet” S. Uy as the new Archbishop of Cebu, following the retirement of Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma.
The announcement was made through the Vatican’s Daily Bulletin. Bishop Abet is a native of Ubay, Bohol. He obtained his Degree in Philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran, and finished his Theological Studies at St. John Mary Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City. He obtained his Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
In 2016, he was appointed by Pope Francis as the Bishop of Tagbilaran. He is a huge environmental advocate, with a heart for the poor and the Marginalized.
