A total of 3,556 graduates from Taguig City University (TCU) marched proudly to receive their diplomas during the schoolโs 19th Commencement Exercises held on July 18 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
In her address, Mayor Cayetano urged the graduates to pursue not just personal dreams but a deeper sense of purpose.
โMany are the plans in a personโs heart, but it is the Lordโs purpose that prevails,โ she said, quoting Proverbs 19:21. โThink big. Dream big. And when your dreams grow, allow them to transform not just your life, but also the lives of others. Hindi lang para sa sarili mo, para rin sa kapwa mo tao.โ
She also underscored the importance of mental wellness and joy in the pursuit of success:
โSa dami ng ginagawa natin, minsan nakakalimutan natin ang sarili natin. Hindi masamang magpahinga. Let your life reflect joy and resilience. In your pursuit of success, donโt forget to live.โ
BusinessWorks Inc. Chairman and motivational speaker Anthony Pangilinan delivered the keynote speech, offering graduates a six-point roadmap for the next chapter of their lives. He reminded graduates that success is not just about achievement and emphasized the importance of becoming better individualsโchoosing transformation over output, authenticity over artificiality, and grace over entitlement.
โItโs not about what you accomplishโitโs who you become,โ Pangilinan said. โRemember, your inner circle will define your level of success. And in the end, itโs not about you, but how the next generation will look at the person you have become.โ
In her valedictory address, Sayda Lizada, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration program, shared the two core values she carried throughout her academic journey:
โAs I stand before you here today, two words echoed in my heart: gratitude and opportunity. Gratitude for every person, moment, and lesson that brought us here. And opportunity for a new path ahead, shaped by everything we have overcome. Because this moment is a reflection of growth, perseverance, and shared pride.โ
Psychology graduate Jury Payabyab, a working student, also shared her story of perseverance, thanking her family and the city government for supporting her dream to graduate. She is one of many Taguigeรฑo students who benefited from the cityโs scholarship and free education programs.
โMayor, thank you for your support. Kung wala po kayo, wala rin kaming mga estudyanteng makakapagtapos. Ilang libong pangarap na naman po ang natupad,โ she said.
