Electrocardiogram, or ECG, records the electrical activity of the heart.
The sequence begins with the P wave, which represents atrial depolarization, meaning the atria contract to push blood into the ventricles.

Next comes the P-R interval, showing the time taken for the impulse to travel from atria to ventricles through the AV node.

Then appears the QRS complex, representing ventricular depolarization, the moment when ventricles contract and pump blood to the lungs and the rest of the body.

After this, the S-T segment reflects the period when ventricles remain fully depolarized during contraction.

This is followed by the T wave, which indicates ventricular repolarization, meaning the ventricles relax and prepare for the next cardiac cycle.

Sometimes a small U wave appears, thought to represent repolarization of Purkinje fibers.

On the ECG paper scale, 5 mm horizontally equals 0.2 seconds, showing time, while 5 mm vertically equals 0.5 mV, representing electrical voltage.

Thus, the ECG waveform sequentially reveals how electrical impulses initiate, conduct, and reset the heartbeat.
