Not every rookie card is about a sure thing. Some are about upside, and Pokusevski's game was pure upside from day one, a lanky forward-center hybrid who could put the ball on the floor in ways bigs usually can't.

His rookie season came with growing pains, but also enough flashes to make opposing coaches take notice mid-game.

Some cards age into their moment. This one's design leans into a hard, focused stare, and looking back now, it almost reads as foreshadowing for a player who never let up until the very end of his career.

The Houston years get overlooked sometimes, sandwiched between OKC and the later stops, but they were still peak-motor Westbrook in a bright red jersey.

Collecting these early inserts feels different this week than it did a month ago. That's the thing about retirement announcements, they change how you look at everything that came before.

There was never a neutral opinion on this guy. You either loved the chaos or you didn't, but you couldn't look away, and that's rarer than people give it credit for.
