8 DEAD, DOZENS INJURED IN BANGKOK BUS-TRAIN COLLISION

LOOK: At least eight people were killed and dozens more were injured following a collision between a freight train and a Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) air-conditioned bus near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link Station in Bangkok yesterday, May 16, 2026.

According to Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angsakulkiat, preliminary findings indicate that the bus became trapped on the railway tracks due to severe traffic congestion, preventing the automatic crossing barrier from fully lowering.

The incoming cargo train, reportedly carrying heavy container units, was unable to stop in time, resulting in a violent collision that dragged the bus and triggered a massive fire.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the train was traveling from Chachoengsao toward Bang Sue Grand Station when the incident occurred.

Emergency responders rushed injured victims to nearby hospitals while authorities secured the area and launched an investigation into the tragedy.

Meanwhile, Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has already been briefed and ordered relevant agencies to assist the victims and families of the deceased, while ensuring a thorough investigation into the incident.

Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the casualties and damages.

Don’t Cha Hate to See It? Pussycat Dolls Cancel Most US Reunion Shows

LOOK: The Pussycat Dolls have called off nearly all dates of their North American reunion tour after struggling with ticket sales, disappointing fans who had waited years for the group’s comeback.

Members Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, and Kimberly Wyatt earlier announced a reunion alongside plans for a global tour. However, the trio later confirmed that only their scheduled appearance at WeHo Pride on June 6 will proceed in the US.

The group shared that the decision came after reassessing the North American leg, which reportedly faced issues with unsold seats, expensive ticket prices, and large arena venues. Despite the setback, their European and UK dates remain intact, with several shows already sold out.

Known for hits like “Buttons” and “Don’t Cha,” the group continues to enjoy strong popularity in Europe, where Roberts and Wyatt are currently based.

The reunion marks another attempt at bringing the group back together after a previous comeback was disrupted by the pandemic and legal complications. | via Christoper Ponio

NBI DIRECTOR MATIBAG DENIES AGENTS FIRED GUNSHOTS INSIDE SENATE

UPDATE: Melvin Matibag clarified that agents of the National Bureau of Investigation deployed in relation to the situation at the Senate of the Philippines were unarmed and did not fire the gunshots reportedly heard inside the building.

The clarification came after Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, during a live broadcast earlier, appealed to the NBI Director for assistance in helping ease the commotion and tension inside the Senate premises.

In an interview with ABS-CBN through a televised phone call, Matibag stressed that the gunshots did not originate from NBI personnel.

“We are not there. We would not be going there because that is the order,” Matibag said.

According to the NBI Director, the bureau and Senate leadership had already agreed earlier in the day that NBI agents would stand down to avoid further escalation of the situation. He added that any future action would still require proper coordination with Senate authorities.

Matibag also disclosed that he was in another hotel preparing for a meeting at the time the incident unfolded.

As of writing, authorities have yet to officially identify who fired the reported gunshots inside the Senate building.

Investigations remain ongoing as officials continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
