VITRO, the data center arm of PLDT, is planning to build a data center in Southern Luzon with a capacity of up to 100 megawatts, with General Trias, Cavite identified as a possible site.
The project is estimated to cost around P40 billion, reflecting the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the country. VITRO reported a 13% increase in data center revenues in the first half of the year.
Other companies are also expanding capacity, while DITO Telecommunity is studying a potential entry into the data center industry.
However, challenges remain, particularly in ensuring sufficient power supply and infrastructure for large-scale facilities.
