DOTr, Lufthansa, other partners unveil new aviation hub in Clark International Airport

The Department of Transportation witnessed the groundbreaking of Lufthansa Technik Phillippines’ new maintenance facility at Clark International Airport on August 6, which is expected to provide highly skilled employment to around 1,200 Filipinos. This also means the country expanding its aviation capacity to maintain and service wide-body aircraft.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the DOTr to modernize and improve aviation infrastructure to make the country a global transport hub and consequently generate employment for Filipinos.
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez said the Lufthansa Technik Philippines Clark will create jobs and training opportunities for Filipino aviation professionals.

"Its clearest benefit to Filipinos will be opportunities it creates. Around 1,200 highly skilled jobs are expected to open over the coming years, giving Filipino engineers, technicians, and other aviation professionals the chance to receive specialized training and build lasting careers here at home," Secretary Lopez said in a message delivered by DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Jim Sydiongco.

"The facility will also expand our capacity to maintain and service wide-body aircraft here in the Philippines. In doing so, it will strengthen Clark's role as an aviation and airspace hub for the country," the transport chief added.

Targeted to begin operations in 2028, the Lufthansa Technik PH Clark will have a capacity of up to nine bays for large aircrafts' maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO).

Lufthansa Technik Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO Soeren Stark expressed his deep gratitude to the Philippines as they experience a "friendly business environment" for the past 25 years.

"The growth and success of the company are never given, they require not only hard work and dedication but also business friendly environment and strong support from the government. We've been fortunate to experience both here in the Philippines for more than 25 years," Stark said.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines President & CEO Holger Beck, for his part, said the country will be a vital aircraft maintenance facility in the Asia-Pacific Region.

"The site will cover approximately 157,000 square meters, creating the foundation for one of the most advanced aircraft maintenance facilities. With these investments, Clark will become a key part of Lufthansa Technik's global network and an important center for aviation excellence in Asia-Pacific," Beck said.

Other VIP guests who graced the milestone event include German Ambassador to the Philippines Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President & CEO Engr. Joshua Bingcang, Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) Chairperson Josephine Gotianun-Yap, MacroAsia Corporation President & COO Eduardo Luis Luy, and Lucio Tan Group President & COO Lucio Tan III.

MERALCO CONTINUES TO INVEST IN SMARTER METERING SOLUTIONS TO STRENGTHEN THE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) continues to enhance its Elevated Metering Transformation (EMX), an evolution of its Elevated Metering Center (EMC), as part of the company's ongoing investments to modernize the distribution network through smarter and more secure metering technologies.

Integrated with Meralco's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), EMX enables remote meter reading, disconnection and reconnection while providing better protection for metering facilities.

It also gives the company better visibility of the distribution network, allowing potential irregularities and pilferages to be identified earlier, and field activities to be carried out more efficiently.

These improvements strengthen the integrity of the metering system and support Meralco's continuing efforts to reduce avoidable non-technical losses while delivering reliable service to customers.

EMX is one of the many modernization initiatives supporting Meralco's broader grid modernization program. Together with other smart grid technologies, it helps strengthen the reliability and efficiency of the distribution network while supporting the company's long-term investments in delivering safe, reliable, and dependable electricity service to its more than eight million customers.

Meralco continues to invest in modern technologies and infrastructure to build a more resilient distribution network that can support the growing needs of its more than eight million customers.
