With the theme "Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon," the Laboratory High School celebrates Buwan ng Wika through a short program organized by the Laboratory High School Grade 12-STEM students, headed by Lenea Faye L. Daylusan and Kyle Orion B. Labrague as the masters of ceremonies on August 25, 2026, held at the UA-TLMC Recreational Fitness Center.

The program started with opening remarks from the principal of Laboratory High School, Ma'am Jennyvi B. Espaรฑola followed by an intermission number by Charineth Athena B. Malunes.

Moreover, Luvimina DC Faith Marie G. Apresto introduced the guest speaker of the program, Dr. May Lynn M. Farren who shared an inspirational message.

"Let us make this technology a bridgeโ€”not a barrier. Gawin nating tulay ang AI upang mas maraming kaalaman ang maging abot-kamay ng ating mga mag-aaral," Dr. Farren expressed.

Furthermore, the Grade-12 STEM students performed a Sabayang Pagbigkas where they conveyed the importance of the Filipino language and that Filipino serves as a bridge for communicating knowledge, while AI serves as a useful research tool, and young researchers must use both responsibly while thinking critically and verifying information.

Additionally, Noelyn Khate F. Bonifacio, the president of Samahang Filipino also expressed her gratitude and shared some insights.

"Nawa'y maiwan sa ating isipan na ang teknolohiya at wika ay hindi magkalaban kundi maaaring maging magkasamang kasangkapan sa pagkatuto at pagtuklas ng kaalaman," Bonifacio shared.

Ms. Bonifacio also highlighted the proper and responsible use of AI and added that AI can be used as a supporting tool for learning and research, while continuing to develop knowledge, skills, and critical thinking.

"Gamitin natin ang AIโ€”hindi upang palitan ang ating kaalaman at kakayahan kundi upang higit pa itong mapa-unlad," she added.

Lastly, Dr. Charlene Joy R. Amar, the Director for Academic Affairs formally concluded the program with closing remarks.

After a round-robin game, the scores were tallied and the final rankings were determined, and Rhianne Denise Marcelo, who represented the Red Ants, advanced to the Cluster Meet 2026 during the District Meet 2026 on August 22, 2026, held at Tibiao Central School.

Marcelo, who represented Laboratory High School for three consecutive years in girlsโ€™ chess, secured third place with a total score of six out of nine rounds against nine other athletes in the girlsโ€™ division, earning her spot in the upcoming Cluster Meet 2026.

Moreover, Marcelo expressed her gratitude, mentioning her fellow athletes who fought beside her. She also stated her rushed preparation for the competition and shared meaningful advice for young aspiring student-athletes.

โ€œI feel very happy about winning third place in the Chess Competition because, to be honest, I didnโ€™t really expect to qualify and proceed to the Cluster Meet. We only had a few days to prepare while also juggling academics, handling our schoolwork, and also being a student journalist for the District Meet, so this achievement means a lot to me. Iโ€™m also very grateful to have competed alongside Nang Yna and Psalm, as well as Nong Joshwin, Inigo, and Nong Red, who helped me practice and prepare for the District Meet. My advice is to never underestimate yourself, keep practicing even when you have limited time, and always learn from every game, whether you win or lose,โ€ she said.

Furthermore, fighting alongside Marcelo are Yna Raven Sebastian in fifth place and Psalm Sofia Adam in seventh place in the girls' division.

Meanwhile, Azriel Joshwin Diesto placed fourth, Red Henson Salmorin placed seventh, and Iรฑigo Alejandro Espaรฑola placed eighth, proudly representing the Red Ants in the boysโ€™ division.

The team was guided and supervised by Maโ€™am Rhea Hannele Grace Baguioro and Maโ€™am Ellen Joy Domingo, who supported the group throughout the competition.

The athletesโ€™ effort and hard work throughout the competition show the relentlessness of the Red Ants, while Marceloโ€™s triumph shows her resilience throughout losses and her passion for chess.

UA-TLMC Laboratory High School students participated in the Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Philippine Development (PCAFD) Scholarship Program Presentation and Workshop, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills for scholarship applications and interviews.

The program commenced with a prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the UA Hymn, accompanied by an audio-visual presentation. It was formally opened by Campus Director Dr. Proferio S. Bangcaya, who underscored the significance of scholarships in shaping students' futures.

"It is an opportunity to open doors, create possibilities, and inspire dreams. Scholarships are not merely financial assistance; they are investments in people. They empower deserving students to pursue their education, develop their potential, and become future leaders who will contribute to the progress of their communities and our nation," Dr. Bangcaya said.

The workshop featured the presentation of the PCAFD Scholarship Fund, an orientation on the application process, breakout sessions on scholarship application questions, discussions on common interview questions, and group practice activities to prepare participants for future scholarship opportunities.

In an interview, Ma'am Erika Merchant emphasized the value of the program, stating, "I think it is a really valuable learning opportunity for scholars. What I am most excited about, especially for Lab School students, is the opportunity to pursue whatever educational goals they have without the burden of educational debt or the need to work part-time to support their tuition."

The activity concluded with the closing remarks of Mrs. Jennyvi B. Espaรฑola, who expressed her appreciation to the organizers, facilitators, and participants for making the workshop a meaningful and successful learning experience. The event reflected UA-TLMC Laboratory High School's commitment to preparing students for higher education by providing access to scholarship opportunities and career readiness programs.
