๐๐๐๐ | DHSS Rallies Candidates for VSUT HALALAN 2025
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) of Visayas State University Tolosa hosted the Miting De Avance 2025 on May 5, 2025, at the VSU Tolosa Gymnatorium. The event served as a preparatory platform for the School-Based Election scheduled to take place on May 6, 2025.
The program commenced with the formal introduction of official candidates vying for various positions in the University Supreme Student Council (USSC) and Faculty Supreme Students Council (FSSC). Notably, some executive candidates and board of director aspirants from the ALAB Party (Faculty of Criminal Justice Education) and executive candidates from the HIRAYA Party (Faculty of Teacher Education) were absent during the event.
After the introduction of official candidates Mr. Jao V. Duran, DHSS Instructor and Student Election Board Adviser, gave his opening message underscored the importance of the Miting de Avance as a venue for students to evaluate the credibility, qualifications, and platforms of the candidates. He highlighted that the event aims to guide the student body in making informed and concious choices during the election.
Following this, Instr. Honeylyn A. Bitanghol of DHSS laid out the official guidelines for the proceedings. The panel of adjudicators composed of Mr. Aldwin A. Taรฑo, Mr. Randy Briones, Mr. Rocky A. Marco, Mr. Erick Gempesao, and Mr. A***n Acampado was formally introduced by Instr. Kiernely Bual.
Each candidate was allotted one minute to deliver their self-introduction and opening statement, followed by another minute to respond to a series of questions posed by the adjudicators. The questions covered a broad range of topics, including proposed programs and projects, leadership style, accountability, and action plans in addressing organizational and institutional concerns.
Candidates were also asked about their stance on the corruption involving student funds and the appropriate solutions to such issues.
Moreover, candidates were challenged to present their perspectives on pressing university concerns including 70% passing rate, lack of participation in students organization, student subjectively evaluate the teachers through Teaching Performance Evaluation by Students (TPES), and the proper grooming and proper wearing of school uniform.
An open forum was conducted following the adjudicated Q&A, giving both students and faculty members the opportunity to raise direct questions and further assess the candidatesโ readiness and vision for leadership.
The event concluded with a closing remarks from Mr. Rocky A. Marco, who urged the student body to exercise their right to vote with discernment. โLet us be responsible voters, guided not by personal ties but by the desire to elect leaders who can truly represent and uplift the student body of the university,โ he stated.
